So I, as Italy, was doing one of those Medditeranean things where you practically eat up Spain, Vinchy France, Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece, and Turkey.
I'm sure you guys do this too so you know exactly what I mean by it. You basically turn the Medditeranean into your pond with Italy's flourescent green so to speak.
Well, I decided the time was ripe to go after the UK. I join the axis and immediately head to El Alamian along North Africa. I also attack from occupied Turkey and head south itowards Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.
I attacked Gilbrata while the AI still had only one garrison unit. When I joined the axis, another unit appeared, but I over ran it. The AI didn't build a level 10 fortress this time so it was easy.
And then I came under a huge D-Day assualt on Southern Spain and Casablanca. My defending units get overwhelmed immediately and I'm like, holy shit I need to get some units over there fast.
I put my attack on the Suez on hold. I move my ships into the area outside of Southern spain to intercept the convoys and the reinforcements that will come.
About 5 provinces come under attack. And when I see that they have level 3 tanks and mechanised units, I knew that I was toast.
So I quit and load up the game again. This time I took some of Italy's older ships and placed them to defend Southern Spain's coastline. I also place more units to defend the beach areas.
I play until I take the Golan Hieghts, when I then pause and look around and find that Southern Spain is under attack!
I'm like, ok how did they get pass all those destroyers and cruisers I had out there. Those ships are old, but they should have engaged something.
I pause the game and inspect all the amphibious assualts that are taking place. This time there are 4 landings.
I check the statistics and I realized why I was loosing so badly. Somehow, all of my units were attacking units and they were facing truly bad penalties.
The AI faced none of the penalties of an amphibious assualt. Their armor units didn't have that -90 Amphibous assualt penalty.
I took a some picture of it. I thought it was really unfair that the AI could do this.
And also this picture too:
After several reloads, I realized that this was probably a badly scripted event that tried to recreate a D-Day landing, but without all the ships involved. The AI just teleports to whereever it wants - even into places that by game rules, it shouldn't be able to get to normally by transport ships.
I turned on "nofog" to see that massive armada bearing down on Europe. Nope! All those American ships are engaged in the Pacific with Japan. There were only a few transports in the Atlantic at the time. They were owned by Canada.
I see what you guys are trying to do. Your trying to have a situation where the AI can fight a human Axis opponent, but why should my defending units have to face -75 moutain penalty for defending against an amphibious assualt that appears out of nowhere?
Have you guys scripted it so that the AI can teleport to Tokyo?
How come I can't teleport into Moscow then?
I really like Historical Stony Road, but this is a very bad event. I shouldn't even build ships to defend my shores now.
I'm a big fan of Paradox's Victoria. In Victoria, the AI will land 40+ divisions onto St Petersburg if you have nothing defending the shores. And there will be hordes of British ships waiting for you to counter-attack them. Whenever something like this happens, both sides loose like 50% of their fleets unless one side runs away. And that's insanley cool.
But this teleporting event is just crap. There is no way to defend against it.
I tried placing units away from the beachs so they don't get wiped out. But once, my 18 plus units in Southern Spain faced 34 American tanks and Motorised units. I use nofog and there is no enemy infantry.
How realisitic is that? No Marines for the bogus amphibious assualt, the AI cherry picks which units to teleport on over.
In the spirit of HSR's icon motto: "For the concerned and baffled." I am trully baffeled as to why this event was even scripted.
