Hi everybody! Maybe this question could be so dumb to be post, but since english is not my native language im getting troubles to understand some parts of the manual, especially those concerning the Province Modifiers and Terrain Battles Modifiers.

The quotes is from the "Players Guide" (page 46/89):

"All land provinces possess the attributes of one or more types of terrain. Terrain is represented as a percentage in one or more terrain types; never exceeding ninety-nine percent in total. Each type of terrain provides certain modifiers to frontage and other gameplay factors as described in this section. As can be seen in the tooltip below a province can consist of more than one terrain type. Only the largest type is used to determine PROVINCE MODIFIERS. The other terrain are used to determine which specific terrain type a battle may take place on within a particular province."

Can anyone explain me that? I can't understand what are the modifiers that apply in case of battle, the largest type or the others.

Thank you all beforehand.

ps. Forgive my language mistakes, im trying to do my best :p

The manual is very confusing and would seem to conflict with an in-game tooltip, which states:

A Province can have several different kinds of terrain and each of these terrains affects the maximum attrition a military unit can take in that province

Battles can take place on any of the terrain types present in an individual province, not necessarily the largest one and I think it is random. The specific terrain where the battle is being fought is shown in the battle window and that is what is applied to frontage and other combat modifiers for attack and defense (shown by mousing over the terrain image in the battle window). I don't think the other terrains in a province enter into at all in terms of battle modifiers - just the terrain where the battle is fought.

I just tested this in-game by instigating a battle against the French in Manresa, Spain (Plains 67.5%, Woods 21.2%, Hills 11.1%). The battle was fought in the Woods, which has a big negative impact on Cavalry & Artillery Attack, but boosts light infantry defense among other things.

It would have been nice if Paradox listed the modifiers by terrain type in the manual, since it is pretty key to success in terms of army composition (although like my example there is the chance the battle won't be fought in the primary terrain type).

BTW, your English is great, far better than large parts of the manual.

I think those percentage things are the chance you gonna meet a specific terrain when battle happens in this Province. so unlike the other PI games, in which you could tell the terrain exactly before go into a battle, in MotE there's more randomness.
