Just did a game where an AI had 80% of the sectors needed for victory, so I went on a war path. Next thing I knew I had the threshold and every ai player on the map declared war on me. There were only 3 left, but since my empire spanned the whole globe(on an islands/continents map), it turned into a defensive war on SIX different fronts. And the AI is actually pretty good at target priorities. The one I stomped into the ground when he had 80% of the sectors needed knew he couldn't win a straight war, but had invested more in a naval force so he sent his forces to the other side of my territory away from the other war fronts to keep denying my naval sectors.
Anyways, you guys should try for a sector win sometime. Since you likely won't be able to dig in and reinforce your territory before they declare war on you(they do it immediately once you hit the sector limit), it turns into an incredibly fun defense game.
