Got the Texas applies for statehood event in 1.03

I agreed to make them a state and nothing happened.

Every time I try to play this game, something annoys me. I guess I'll uninstall and wait for Crusader Kings.

how long did you wait? It takes a while for Texas to become a state.

So after they ask and I accept there is a waiting period much like buying a handgun?

That doesn't make much sense, and I don't think it worked like that when I played USA in 1.01

It's always been like that.

When/if Texas asks for statehood, and you agree, there is a random wait period before it happens. This apparently simulates debate in the Texas legislature (or something). If Texas again agrees to statehood, Mexico may declare war. Once the war is over, whatever's left of Texas will become a state, but only once Texas is again at peace.

In VIP, we changed this. Texas becomes a state immediately upon acceptance of their annexation offer. Then the US may get to fight Mexico. (Texas makes an early annexation offer and a later annexation offer in VIP, as in history. If the USA accepts Texas in the early offer, it potentially gets to fight Mexico without access to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo event, which means it may have a tougher time getting the North American territories from Mexico than if it waits. This is based on historical research.)
