And there is project Augustus floating around so maybe they will announce it on the date, which will either be a WW1 game or Vicky 3. Does anybody think this is possible?

Are you trying to say there should not be a WWI game because of atrocities committed during and after? Because if so, then by your logic there should be no games about WW2, Vietnam, the American Civil War, or any war at all.
More likely to get a game on the Ottoman-Venice war, which was started 300 years ago. At least the devs haven't said they will never do a game on it.
Maybe they changed their minds? We can hope. But Ottoman-Venice war game would not be bad either.
It is not a sequel so Vicky 3 is out of the question. As for a WW1 game, no seeing that HoI4 is already being released and WW2 is far more known by the general public and also far more resources are available. In addition to that Paradox has stated that they won't do a WW1 game.

No it couldn't as these side project were not really profitable so paradox has also stated that they won't do any more of those.
One, Paradox have said they won't do a world war one game, and two there are a few good Paradox WW1 games in existence - the Darkest Hour 1914 scenario and 1914 mod, and the WW1 mod for HOI3 are all plenty enough to cover the subject. A WW1 themed game would probably end up like MOTE unless they put a lot of work into it. Personally I think a WW1 HOI4 mod is good enough for most people.
plus PI has also said they won't do a cold war game, which really sucks. considering EvW died mainly because of delays and cost constraints.
so yeah. when it comes to the grand strategy genre, it's safe to assume at this point (note the key word "assume") that as far as originality (which includes unnecessary and disavowed would-be IPs) goes, PI/PDS may very well be near the end of the road.
I don't think they said that they won't do a cold war game. They said they won't do a present time game (after 1991 to present). However project Augustus is not a cold war game.

yeah, the general consensus is that Augustus is Vicky III right? if so, that name has to be a dead giveaway.

No actually it isn't as it is not a sequel so we will see another completely new gaming franchise which is good news. I am however pretty sure that Vicky 3 or Rome 2 will be announced after Project Augustus but that is probably at least one year into the future.
