Hi all,
In one of the recent Dharma dev clash episodes, we could see @DDRJake and @Groogy surprised about the location of Aïr. As they noticed, it seemed to have slithered its way to the Arguin province.
Good to see they were also surprised to see it there. It seems this happens every few games, and is not really WAD. Allow me to explain how this actually happens, and hopefully they can poke the right people to change the province a little bit.
The province starts out as a Sunni Touareg colonizable province. Most games, Portugal will take the province (because historical correctness) and add it to the West African Charter. Since the province remains Touareg, and since the Portuguese state fails every once in a while, the province will have cultural separatism. Since Aïr is the primary nation of Touareg, the separatists will be Aïr separatists.
Given that this is very far away from actual Aïr lands, and given the surprise of the developers themselves, maybe something could be done to prevent this?
Some solution I can think of at this moment:
1.a Change the culture of the province: I am not sure why the province was set to Touareg in the first place . Maybe to represent the original berber population of the area? In this case why not go for the berber culture? This would mean the province get Tlemcen separatists. While not more realistic, Tlemcen actually has a coastline and can reach its new province.
1.b Another option would be to represent the Hassaniya Arabic population of the area. Since this does not exist in game, it could be represented by Moroccan culture (NB: This is purely for gameplay, and suggested with only respect to my friends from the area, I realize Hassaniya and Moroccan Arabic are very different) This would actually give some Moroccan separatists, which would be the most logical nation to join.
1.c Of course, creating Hassaniya culture, with its own tag would also work, however, I am aware one province cultures are not populair. Maybe there could also be some Hassaniya provinces in southern Morocco?
2. Create an event to decolonize the province.
When checking the history of Arguin (for example, check the EU4 history file
) We can see the province get abandoned several times. It would be a viable solution for this problem. This could for example be done with an event. When Arguin is the only coastal province of Aïr, it gets decolonized. This way a successful rebellion would result in a empty province, up for grabs by other colonial powers.
3. Remove the province entirely.
Although not my favored solution, the province does look a bit big to represent the small island of Arguin, and arguably did not have much influence in the EU4 timeline. It might just as easily be removed from the game.
Since Arguin is at the edge of the Magreb, I feel it is just in scope for the 1.28 update, so this would be the time to fix this
Cheers!
