Well if it is handled through vents you could see it like the Plague event in EU2. But with a modifier for population in the province.
Maybe a certain % dies instead of a fixed number.
But given that there are 3 or so provinces for every EU province it does mean alot of events popping up all of a sudden, so it might slow down the game....

Maybe it wil be handled as a single event? But then you will have the whole of Europe die at the same day. :)

I do hope it will sweep across your lands, "jumping" from province to province, but that it doesn't necisarily follow the historical path, just think of the plague breaking out in Portugal, Portuguese traders could bring it to Iceland then before let's say Navarra is affected.

The first was pretty bad but there were several plagues in a row which probably together caused the great disaster.
In England alone there were 31 major outbreaks between 1348 and 1485. In Europe there isn't a single year between 1347 and 1782 when there wasn't a plague somewhere. The 14th century was extremely bad because of the frequency, each generation was hit by the plague in each area; imagine first seeing your brothers and sisters die in 1348, followed by your children and your wife in 1360 and then your new wife and children in 1369. The population in Normandy dropped to 75% of pre-plague population because of the first round (in the 1340's and1350's) but was further reduced to 25% of pre-plague population by the 1420's.
The beginning of 14th century was hardly better with the famine caused by bad weather beginning in 1315 and ending in 1322.

What about hte [plague's effect on your characters? It cuold prove an interesting twist into dynestical planning (for instance, you lose a daughter to the plague, which means you can't marry her off to the King of Castille, throwing a dent into your plans...)

Sounds realistic to me. This kind of thing always makes a game more interesting - you can't plan every thing to the last detail and expect everything to go as planned.:)

Well, given the high mortality rate of the age at the best of times, this should be a problem throughout. The plague should only exacerbate it...

The mortality rate for this period is the same as for every other period except modern times - 100%:D :p

Seriously though, you got it right. Makes the game very interesting and scary if your entire line can die out.:)

The Ugly one made that adjustment to my title back before Havard swatted him down from his lofty perch.:)
