This is my first Victoria 2 AAR using the Pops of Darkness mod. It will span a century of South African history, going from direct British rule to the establishment of a semi-independent Dominion allied to Great Britain. I'm not a veteran at this game so there may be times (many, many times) where you may gnash your teeth and wish to shout out the answer to me... well by all means, do so! Any help is appreciated, though I think I have a firm understanding of the game mechanics. I'll try for weekly updates (I live in Australia, so the time is different from the majority here) when possible.
I'm aiming to role-play rather then game the system (partly because I don't know HOW to game the system), so I plan to accept the dice were-ever they fall. I'm not going to mod the game, or cheat (apart from the first time when I create a general for the South African garrison). I'm going to start as Great Britain before transitioning to the dominion, hopefully in 1836/1837. This means that I'll make small changes right from the get go, making the birth place of South Africa marginally (or possible massively) different. So I hope you enjoy and please feel free to give me positive or critical feedback.
Note: After a couple of changes I've decided to write about the politics of South Africa, in the style of @Resinex112 New England Rises AAR (hope you don't mind!). So the updates will cover around 4 years each.
Goals
1. Form South Africa
2. Expand into Zulu, Lesotho, Xhosa and any other African tribal territory near me
3. Become a Secondary Power
4. Expand into the African continent through colonization
5. Take Portuguese Mozambique (and any other European colony I feel like I can take)
6. Become a Great Power
