On the Precipice of Failure 1621-1660
And a fairly larger update with some actual action.
Also to everyone who is still following this thread from back in June, thanks for sticking around even with my disappearance.
@Ashantai, Seems like there was a good reason they don't colonize early
@Sprites & Benetka, Ya as one friend I know put it "Normally Austria messes with Russia, now Austria

On the Precipice of Failure 1621-1660
The acquisition of Venetian territories brought with it something that it would have been better to not have, notority. The Huron Confederacy, which until 1621 had only been known to the Venetians, was now known to the world. The road High Elder Andachkhrob had put the Confederacy onto was a long one, and covered in blood.
For a short while after the Venetian War the Huron Confederacy was at peace. Andachkhrob, in a plan that was written down in texts at the time as "Quarintine the Europeans to the coast" began sending sending colonists to any region he knew the Europeans weren't already in and that he had access too. Starting by heading to the west into Michigan by 1627.
In 1630, mostly out of not seeing the need to remove them at this time, Andachkhrob sided with his Tyrone neighbours. Then in 1631 things went downhill. Sweden, along with Norway, Novgorod, and Switzerland, took notice of the Huron Confederacy and looked to conquer the still backwards nation. Tyrone was overrun on the Isles by Swedish forces but two initial Swedish landings were driven off by the combined Confederacy army, with heavy casualties to both sides.
Then in 1633, things got even worse. With Sicily declaring war on the Confederacy, while the war with Sweden and its allies was still going on.
This war with Sicily was very short lived, lasting only three months, ending with the Confederacy conceding defeat. Before Andachkhrob and the Confederacy could breath a sigh of relief, things got worse again. With England taking Sicilies position late in 1633.
Interlude #2: South America Circa 1633
Already at this point South America was setting itself up to be a complete mess.
By 1635 the English had ended their war, recieving only a confession of defeat from the Huron. Sweden, despite all its allies having abandoned it, continued its long war with the Confederacy with annexation its goal. For most of the war it fought with a blockade of the St. Lawerence, which did little to hamper the Huron as they didn't trade with any other nation, relying on a internal Center of Trade in Niagara to continue funding their wars. On January 1st 1635, a second round of Swedish landing forces begin arriving, the Huron army began to link up to drive the Europeans back into the sea.
In 1636, things got worse again. This time with the fairly powerful nation of Barbrant, backed up by a large number of completely landlocked minor nations, declaring war on the Huron. Luckily for the Confederacy, the DoW didn't happen till after the Swedish forces had been annihalted, once again though Huron casualties had been heavy.
Finally, in 1638 Sweden gave up its dreams of annexation after another landing force was turned back. Barbrant though continued its war, also looking to annex the Confederacy, and by 1642 this war was still going on. Then things got worse yet again, with England coming back for a round two, supported by the semi-powerful nation of Aragon. At this point in time, knowing the Europeans prefered to land along the banks of the St. Lawerence, Andachkhrob turned the proviences of Stadacona and Kespek into fortresses.
In 1648 the English and Dutch (Barbrant is Dutch nationality in my game) had been driven back, the English for the second time, the Confederacy found itself at peace. It was not a good peace, the Confederacy army had been hit hard and they were still at risk of invasion by larger powers such as France. At this point Andachkhrob realized that the only way the Americas would belong to those where were their first, was to bring modernization to the Shawnee to the south.
The war was quick and brutal, the Shawnee never embraced any form of Westernization and their armies were brushed aside by the Confederacy force. By 1653, even if rebellions were commonplace, the Shawnee had been brought into the Confederacy's fold. Along with this Andachkrob gave up his reactionary ideas, westernizing the army in the same year and bringing the Confederacy on par with European nations on all fronts.
This move also brought the Confederacy into contact with the largest colonial nation in the Americas, the Portugese. Who had now moved their capital to Mexico City after numerous defeats in Europe to the Castillians effectively drove them out of their homelands. With Tyrone having been dropped as an ally to the Confederacy due to them being a dead weight, the Portuguese were picked up as allies, finally securing some sort of naval protection for the Confederacy. This alliance was put to use shortly after when Portugal called the Confederacy into a war with Spain. Confederate action in this war was non-existant but it lasted for a signifigant amount of time.
And once again when the Confederacy was pulled into another Portugese war against the newly formed Scandinavia.
