Start year: 1399
Version: EU3 Divine Wind 5.1

Ok so now that thats out of the way, some background. This is my first AAR. I plan on taking this game through EU3(Already done), Victoria 2(Current year is 1878), and HoI 3. The way this game AAR is going to be set up is as if it was being looked at through a history text book. And now that that incredably basic introduction is out of the way. On to the AAR!

The First Days 1399-1400

The first days of the Huron Confederacy were a critical time in the Huron nation. The tiny nation was bordered by uninhabitable regions to the North, East, and West, and the Iroquios nation stood to the South East.

High Elder Akatsistari, elected to his position by the tribal chiefs only a few days prior, immediatly went to work. Hiring from the tribes two men well versed in the arts of war to serve him.

Along with immediatly making minor reforms to centralize the government.

Consolidation 1400-1410

High Elder Akatsistari interests were not to be contained within his nations borders though. To the South East the Iroquois nation was quickly enveloped in turmoil. Pretender Rebels had risen up and decimated the standing Iroquois armies. The High Elder, who had in his first few weeks set about increasing the size of his military, saw his chance to expand.

War was promptly declared and the High Elders plan put into action. The 1st Huron army, 3,000 soldiers in total, marched across Niagara to Seneca, while 2nd Army, comprised of 2,000 soldiers, forded the St. Lawrence into Mohawk. Quickly moving closing the pincer they encountered next to no resistance until they reached Onondaga, which was guarded by 1,000 rebel soldiers, the survivors of earlier battles with the Huron standing army. The battle that followed was brief and could barely worthy of note. So it was the Iroquois nation became another nation in the Confederacy.

Now that the need for military conquest was done the High Elder shuffled his court. With numerous rebelions springing up from unhappy Iroquois he hired High Judge Maila, who would serve him for the better part of thirty years. To also help quell the rebellions, the High Elder hired a man to help give his army better equipment and training, to help get an edge over the rebels.

Europe Dominates 1410-1605 Part 1

Due to the isolation of the Huron Confederacy during this time, we must switch our focus to the powers in Europe. Occasional references will be made to the Huron nation when matters of importance arrise.

The Low Ages: 1410-1468

The Low Ages, so named because Europe was wracked with war and disunity. France was little more then a smattering of small nations, Germany was just as bad. To the East the Golden Horde was beginning its encroachments into Europe and to the South Morocco and Algiers were being picked apart by Castille and Aragon.

2012071400008.jpg

The Low Ages was also the time when the nations of England and Castille began their rise to power, close to the year 1433. Castille becoming a powerplayer in North Africa and Europe, while England began to subjegate the isles and make moves into the Mediterranean.

2012071400009.jpg

By 1445 the Golden Horde was proving unstoppable as it pushed west, while Burgundy had expanded into most of the lowlands. Castille and Aragon had managed to become the powers in Africa, and England found itself attacked on all sides by the Mamaluks, Scotland, and the Ottoman Empire.

2012071400010.jpg

In 1456, England's breif rise to power comes to an end. Collapsing to internal rebellions and outside powers, Englands domination over the Isles collapses, with most of its overseas colonies falling to various enemies. Elsewhere in the world the Golden Horde ran into the Austrian Empire, a meeting that would shape the face of the future world.

2012071400012.jpg

By 1464 England found itself on its last legs, its homeland occupied by Scotland, and the rest of the Isles taking advantage of its weakness to declare independence. The King, driven from the capital, takes refuge in Artois, just across the channel. In the East the Golden Horde is finally beaten during a face off with Austria. While land changes were minimal the Horde's armies ceased to exist.

2012071400013.jpg

The events that heralded the end of the end of the Low Ages is the Portugese arrival in the Americas, a small number of Portugese soldiers managed to drive into the Mayan Empire and establish the first American colonies.

Europe Dominates 1410-1605 Part 2

The Rise of Austria: 1468-1550

The time slightly longer then a century between 1468 and 1573 saw rise to one of the most powerful empires of the age. After numerous defeats at the hand of Austria the Khan of the Golden Horde finally was killed, history is uncertain of two things, when he died, and wether he died of old age, in battle, or by suicide at the string of humiliation he suffered, but the end result was the dissolution of the Horde by 1503. Splitting into numerous minor nations that were powerless to stand against the Austrian empire. At the same time the English found themselves on the run once again, with almost all its lands either occupied by foreign powers or rebels. The Isles falling to the Scotish at almost all turns. To the south Castille expanded its rule over North Africa, and Aragon.

2012071400014.jpg

By 1522 the Austrian Empire had signifigantly expanded into the former territories of the Horde. On the Isles England finally made peace with its Scotish enemies, but at the expensive of all its overseas colonies, how long this peace would last was another story entirely. Sweden had by this time managed to secure the entire Scandinavian regions, driving out its many former enemies. Many nations at this time also began to colonize Africa.

2012071400015.jpg

By 1550 The Austrian Empire had absorbed most of the former Golden Horde, raising a military that very few could hope to match. Back in the Isles the English had regained some ground, annexing Wales and Cornwall along with most of Ireland, but in return lost more territory to Scotland. In the south the Castille Empire continued to grow, with wars against Portugal now common and the Holy Lands mostly in Castillian Hands.

Very interesting start! I do like how you show us the state of Europe too since there's not much to do in Huron but wait for the Europeans to come!

Looking forward to more.

Following and crush the europeans eeh you know what I meant. GOOD LUCK!!!

Wow guys sorry for the massive delay here, Real Life hit me kind of hard with having to leave my tower behind due to work. To make up for it I am going to give you guys a big update and hopefully another one soon. So without further ado, I continue this thread!

Europe Dominates 1410-1605 Part 3:

The High Ages: 1550-1603

A continuation of the age of Austrian Domination, the High Ages is the time when mighty empires fully began to form. On the Isles, Scotland has almost totally dominated the English and the many minors of the Isles, all while beginning its own colonization projects around the world. In the East, Austria continued to grow into the lands of the former Khanates. To the south Castille expanded into the Middle East and into the Americas and Africa. Finally to the North, Sweden nears in the completion of a complete Scandinavian state.

South America in 1562:

North America in 1562:
2012083100003.jpg

By 1573, the world situation had changed little outside of the changes wrought by Scotland. On the Isles, England was on its last legs, with Castille aggrivating the situation with a landing in Southern England. Wales continues to remain independent but only barely. Scottish colonies began to appear in North America at this time and were joined by French colonies at almost the same time.

The Isles:

North America in 1573:
2012083100007.jpg

By 1585 the North American colonization race was on, with the main competitors being Scotland, France, Castille, Austria, Portugal, Venice and Brunswick.

2012083100010.jpg

Meanwhile in Europe rebellions and outside invaders were breaking apart Sweden and Moscowy continued to grow alongside Austria.

2012083100009.jpg

In 1597 England was being beaten once again by Scotland on Britian, while on Ireland the English were slowly gaining ground. To the South Castille and France were having one of their first major wars.

2012083100011.jpg

In North and South America colonies continued to grow and Portugal was waring with the known native nations at the time.

North America:
2012083100013.jpg

South America:
2012083100012.jpg

By 1605 the war between Castille and France had come to an end with minor land changes, Russia had formed into a singular nation and heralded the beginnings of a new power in the East, Sweden have regained most of its lost territories and once again was looking toward the remaining holdings of Norway.

2012083100014.jpg

In North America, colonies continued to grow and wars continued to happen. In this year the Venetians had began colonizing down the St. Lawerence River and encountered at its base the Huron Confederacy.

2012083100015.jpg

And thus ended the age of total European Domination.

Ok so that brings an end to following the happenings of Europe so closely, now we move back to watching over the Huron Confederacy as it fights for survival. At the time of Venetian contact the Huron Confederacy was in resonable shape with reasonable cash reserves on hand, a reasonable standing army, and a leader ready to embrace westernization if it meant his countries survival.

2012083100017.jpg

Venice in the colonising game early! That's something you don't see often.

The First Meetings

And as promised, another update, admittedly much shorter.

The First Meetings 1605-1621:

First meetings between Venice and the Huron Confederacy were cordial. During these initial meetings High Elder Karenhassa was impressed with the weapons the Venitian envoys carried with them and prioritized the study of their ways.

2012083100018vd.jpg

This program of Westernizing the way of thought inside the Confederacy would last until 1620, but it was not simple. Many within the country were against Karenhassa's ideas and the at the time 10,000 man army spent much of its time over the next century hunting down and defeating rebel uprisings.

2012083100020.jpg

Between 1605 and 1620 the Confederacy was focused internally with westernizing its thought and payed little attention as the Colonial powers warred over the surrounding regions.

2012083100021.jpg

In 1620 the work Westernizing the way the Confederacy approached technology was finished, with Karenhassa westernizing the government shortly later, turning the country from a democracy to a republic. Shortly after modernizing the government, in late 1620, Karenhassa was replaced and High Elder Andachkhrob stepped in. Unlike his predeccessor Andachkhrob was staunchly against Westernization, and while he couldn't turn back the work Karenhassa had already done he did begin a mission to remove the Europeans from the continent. Starting with Venice, who were unprepared for the war and their territory was absorbed by late 1621 with no casualties.

Native Americans and an independant Northumberland :)

I'll follow this even though unspeakable things have been done replacing Iroquois Green with Huron Brown ;)

On the Precipice of Failure 1621-1660

And a fairly larger update with some actual action.

Also to everyone who is still following this thread from back in June, thanks for sticking around even with my disappearance.

@Ashantai, Seems like there was a good reason they don't colonize early :p

@Sprites & Benetka, Ya as one friend I know put it "Normally Austria messes with Russia, now Austria is Russia"

@PrawnStar, Huron Brown beats Iroquois Green any day of the week ;)

On the Precipice of Failure 1621-1660

The acquisition of Venetian territories brought with it something that it would have been better to not have, notority. The Huron Confederacy, which until 1621 had only been known to the Venetians, was now known to the world. The road High Elder Andachkhrob had put the Confederacy onto was a long one, and covered in blood.

For a short while after the Venetian War the Huron Confederacy was at peace. Andachkhrob, in a plan that was written down in texts at the time as "Quarintine the Europeans to the coast" began sending sending colonists to any region he knew the Europeans weren't already in and that he had access too. Starting by heading to the west into Michigan by 1627.

2012083100028.jpg

In 1630, mostly out of not seeing the need to remove them at this time, Andachkhrob sided with his Tyrone neighbours. Then in 1631 things went downhill. Sweden, along with Norway, Novgorod, and Switzerland, took notice of the Huron Confederacy and looked to conquer the still backwards nation. Tyrone was overrun on the Isles by Swedish forces but two initial Swedish landings were driven off by the combined Confederacy army, with heavy casualties to both sides.

2012083100030.jpg

Then in 1633, things got even worse. With Sicily declaring war on the Confederacy, while the war with Sweden and its allies was still going on.

2012090100002.jpg

This war with Sicily was very short lived, lasting only three months, ending with the Confederacy conceding defeat. Before Andachkhrob and the Confederacy could breath a sigh of relief, things got worse again. With England taking Sicilies position late in 1633.

Interlude #2: South America Circa 1633
Already at this point South America was setting itself up to be a complete mess.
2012083100033.jpg

By 1635 the English had ended their war, recieving only a confession of defeat from the Huron. Sweden, despite all its allies having abandoned it, continued its long war with the Confederacy with annexation its goal. For most of the war it fought with a blockade of the St. Lawerence, which did little to hamper the Huron as they didn't trade with any other nation, relying on a internal Center of Trade in Niagara to continue funding their wars. On January 1st 1635, a second round of Swedish landing forces begin arriving, the Huron army began to link up to drive the Europeans back into the sea.

2012090100005.jpg

In 1636, things got worse again. This time with the fairly powerful nation of Barbrant, backed up by a large number of completely landlocked minor nations, declaring war on the Huron. Luckily for the Confederacy, the DoW didn't happen till after the Swedish forces had been annihalted, once again though Huron casualties had been heavy.

2012083100035.jpg

2012083100036.jpg

Finally, in 1638 Sweden gave up its dreams of annexation after another landing force was turned back. Barbrant though continued its war, also looking to annex the Confederacy, and by 1642 this war was still going on. Then things got worse yet again, with England coming back for a round two, supported by the semi-powerful nation of Aragon. At this point in time, knowing the Europeans prefered to land along the banks of the St. Lawerence, Andachkhrob turned the proviences of Stadacona and Kespek into fortresses.

2012083100038.jpg

In 1648 the English and Dutch (Barbrant is Dutch nationality in my game) had been driven back, the English for the second time, the Confederacy found itself at peace. It was not a good peace, the Confederacy army had been hit hard and they were still at risk of invasion by larger powers such as France. At this point Andachkhrob realized that the only way the Americas would belong to those where were their first, was to bring modernization to the Shawnee to the south.

2012090100007.jpg

The war was quick and brutal, the Shawnee never embraced any form of Westernization and their armies were brushed aside by the Confederacy force. By 1653, even if rebellions were commonplace, the Shawnee had been brought into the Confederacy's fold. Along with this Andachkrob gave up his reactionary ideas, westernizing the army in the same year and bringing the Confederacy on par with European nations on all fronts.

2012083100040.jpg

This move also brought the Confederacy into contact with the largest colonial nation in the Americas, the Portugese. Who had now moved their capital to Mexico City after numerous defeats in Europe to the Castillians effectively drove them out of their homelands. With Tyrone having been dropped as an ally to the Confederacy due to them being a dead weight, the Portuguese were picked up as allies, finally securing some sort of naval protection for the Confederacy. This alliance was put to use shortly after when Portugal called the Confederacy into a war with Spain. Confederate action in this war was non-existant but it lasted for a signifigant amount of time.

2012083100043.jpg

And once again when the Confederacy was pulled into another Portugese war against the newly formed Scandinavia.
