Royal Palace: Jerusalem - 1067

It is June 23, 1067; just one day after Louis Peresia was crowned as Louis the Fourth, King of the Migite Realm. on his desk before him was three important documents: two containing office appointments and the other one of a personal nature.

Steward: Your Majesty, your two brothers: Prince Robert, and Prince Otto are here to see you.

Louis IV: Send them in.

Princes Robert and Otto Peresia enter the Royal Office

Louis IV: The two documents are for you, in accordance to our late mother's will. Robert, you are now the Count of Petra. As for you Otto, you are now the Bishop of Madaba.

Robert and Otto: Thank you dear brother.

Shortly after the King's two brothers have left his office, the Chancellor enters

Chancellor: You called for me, your Majesty

Louis IV: Yes, I did. I've been looking over my black book for some suitable prospects. Now go ahead and have the foreign office send this over to Tuscany. It seems that Beatrice von Bar, who rules Tuscany has a daughter by the name of Mathilda Canossa.

Chancellor: Why her, may I ask?

Louis IV: She's around mine age and more importantly, she's an only child, which means no brothers to worry about.

It took about a month before Beatrice von Bar of Tuscany agreed to let her daughter marry King Louis. The wedding took place in Jerusalem on August 1. It was a most splendid affair, it ought to have been with that cheap bastard Louis charging the guests admission, with his brother Bishop Otto taking a tenth of the proceeds as his cut for performing the ceremony.

Mathilda Canossa, Queen Consort of the Migite Realm

In 1068, a serious case of smallpox broke out in Jerusalem, the capital being moved to Tiberias, in Galilee as a temporary measure. One year later, Queen Mathilda gave birth to both Princesses Sybilla and Mary.

Acre - 1070

William Ali: Your Majesty, I received a written request from members of the local clergy from Jerusalem.

King Louis: What's the request for?

William Ali: It's for alms for those suffering from the smallpox epidemic.

King Louis: Request approved, can't be seen as cruel and heartless now, can we?

William Ali: Of course not, sire.

Acre - September 1071

William Ali: Your Majesty, I received a written request from the governor of Al' Aqabah.

King Louis: What is it?

William Ali: It seems that the businessmen of Al' Aqabah want the town's charter amended so that the city's laws are considered binding over the church laws.

King Louis: Request Denied, tell them while I privately agree with them on the issue, my hands are officially tied. The Pope of late had got this nasty habit of sticking his nose into political affairs. Therefore, if I went went on record as trying to enchance civil power at the expense of the clergy's so-called power, They'll go crying to Rome for sure. They should be able to understand that.

Almost a year later, Queen Mathilda gave birth to the royal couple third child, a son whom the King named William. With the birth of a son and heir, King Louis considered the succession secured.

Acre - May 1073

William Ali: Your Majesty, the local clan chieftains from Maan have a request from you.

King Louis: What for?

William Ali: For hunting rights on the church's lands there.

King Louis: HELL NO!!! They must be crazy if they think I gonna start some shit with Rome over some "hunting rights"!!!

William Ali: I take it that the request is denied then, sire?

Acre - August 1073

William Ali: Your Majesty, I received a written request from members of the local clergy from Jerusalem.

King Louis: What's the request for?

William Ali: It's for alms for those suffering from the smallpox epidemic.

King Louis: Request approved, always good for public relations

William Ali: But of course, sire.

In September of 1073, Prince William Peresia, son of King Louis dies of ill health. Although doctors confirmed that William died of sickness, the King orders Salma al-Mousa to oversee the investigation of his son's death. For although he wouldn't say it publicly, King Louis suspected that more than a few people would try to seize the throne if he should die without a son to succeed him. Also while the King was mourning his son's death, a third daughter was born. She was named Juliana

Acre - June 1074

William Ali: Your Majesty, I got some good news from Jerusalem

King Louis: What is it?

William Ali: The smallpox epidemic has weaken itself out

King Louis: Good, make the necessary preparations to move the court back to Jerusalem.

William Ali: As you wish, sire

Acre - December 1074

Queen Mathilda: Louis, Princess Sybilla is almost five now. What kind of education is she going to receive?

King Louis: Sybilla is going to get a court education. Then depending on whether she gets any brothers or not, she's also going to learn about weapons and the art of warfare.

Episode 3: Return to Jerusalem

Shortly after the return of the royal court to Jerusalem from Acre, King Louis begin to spend more time with Queen Mathilda and their daughters. Some say this was due to the King's desire to take a more direct hand in the princesses upbringing. Others however thought it was because King Louis would do anything to keep his younger brother, the Count of Petra off the throne.

Royal Palace (Royal Chamber) - Jerusalem: April 1075

Queen Mathilda: Louis, Mary is almost five now. What kind of education is she going to receive?

King Louis: I decided to put Mary's education in the hands of the clergy.

Queen Mathilda: The clergy? But why Louis?

King Louis: It's bad enough that William's death left the succession wide open. Also the fact that Sybilla and Mary though not twins, were both born in the same year doesn't help matters. So it's either put Mary in a nunnery, or risk a succession war between her and Sybilla when I die.

Queen Mathilda: So be it, Louis

In July of that year, Queen Mathilda gave birth to the royal couple's fourth daughter, named Lidia.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: December 1075

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, I have a report here from the tutors concerning Princess Sybilla.

King Louis: What does it say?

Salma al-Mousa: It says here that Princess Sybilla has been very cruel to her pets. Already two cats have been killed by her.

King Louis: You go and tell that daughter of mine that I'll deal with her in the royal chamber when her daily studies are done.

Salma al-Mousa: As you command sire

On October 9, 1076 William Ali, Steward of Mig died in his sleep at the age of 71. In his place, King Louis appointed Henry d'Ibelin as Steward.

Henry d'Ibelin, Steward of the Migite Realm

In January of 1077, King Louis prayers were answered as Queen Mathilda give birth to a son, whom she name Ugo.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: April 1077

Henry d'Ibelin: Your Majesty, the governor of Tabuk reports that fewer fish in the area have brought a recession to the province.

King Louis: Send some money from the emergency fund to aid those fishermen in distress.

Henry d'Ibelin: As you wish sire

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: November 1078

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, the palace tutors had told me that Princess Mary started a relief fund for the orphans in Jerusalem.

King Louis: Good for her, at least she know her duties to the people unlike her sister Sybilla. Now go and tell I'belin to add some of my own money to that relief fund.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: May 1079

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, I have an urgent report form the palace tutors saying that Princess Sybilla was in a brawl with an older girl.

King Louis: What!!!

Salma al-Mousa: Sire, it seems that the brawl started over some boy.

King Louis: A boy!! Why she's only 10 years old!!!

Salma al-Mousa: The boy is the son of a respected merchant. Well anyway, Princess Sybilla and this 13 year old girl went to a field behind the palace with their seconds, where the rest of the children were waiting. From the reports of the witnesses, Princess Sybilla beat the other girl to a pulp. It also says here some money changed hands among some of the children attending the fight.

King Louis: And why I may ask, didn't any of tutors prevented the fight from breaking out?

Salma al-Mousa: The head tutor himself said it a "matter of honor", and thus he couldn't interfere.

King Louis: And who is this boy, if I may ask?

Salma al-Mousa: The report says the boy's name is a Donald King, who the kids called Don. He also won the most money from the brawl.

King Louis: I want to see this boy ASAP

Salma al-Mousa: should I prepare the whipping post then sire?

King Louis: Hell no! I just want to see him so he could pay me my cut from the action.

Salma al-Mousa: Your cut, sire?

King Louis: Since the fight took place on my field, I as the owner receive a cut of the gambling proceeds.

King Louis: Damn northern cheiftains! I want you to find the bastard spreading these foul rumors, and once you find him...deal with him.

Salma al-Mousa: As you command sire.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: November 2, 1080

King Louis: Good, now if I can only get Princess Sybilla into line.

Royal Palace (Royal Chamber) - Jerusalem: October 10, 1081

Queen Mathilda: Louis, Lidia is almost five now. What kind of education is she going to receive?

King Louis: Tell both the House of Peers and the House of Commons that there won't be any new taxes planned for this year.

Henry I'belin: I'm sure Parliament will be pleased to hear it.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: June 15, 1082

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, the palace tutors had told me that Princess Lidia has put some money into Princess Mary's orphan relief fund.

King Louis: Good, that's one more child on the right path.

Royal Palace (Royal Chamber) - Jerusalem: March 7, 1083

Queen Mathilda: Louis, our son Ugo is five now. I want to know what sort of education you arranged for him?

King Louis: Since Ugo is our heir, I decided to give a military education with bit of general tutoring.

Queen Mathilda: Ugo shall in due course be King...if his sister Sybilla don't kill him first.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: November 18, 1083

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, it seems that Prince Ugo is one of those that take no mess from anybody.

King Louis: I going to have to look into that boy's upbring more carefully then.

In June of 1084, Salma al-Mousa's chief deputy, Elizabeth was stricken with leperosy. I was said in some quarters that she become a leper as punishment for her constant schemes against her enemies.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: September 25, 1084

Bishop Malik: Your Majesty, there's a request from the local clergy asking for alms for the poor.

Bishop Malik: I'm sure God will look kindly upon you for this good work.

Episode 5: Three Weddings and a Funeral

St. James Church - Jerusalem: April 14, 1085

Princess Sybilla, despite her cruelty and vengeful streak grew into a young lady with average diplomatic skills. King Louis quickly managed to find a husband for his troublesome daughter; Baron Henry Habib, son of the Count of Farama. As usual the King charged the guests admission, with Bishop Malik taking a tenth of the proceeds as his cut. At the wedding reception, few people noticed King Louis taking the Queen to the Royal Chambers. Afterwards, while a few people thought Queen Mathilda had simply fainted, others feared that the Queen's health was begining to fail.

King Louis: What does it say?

Henry I'belin: It says here that the Pope has hereby transfered Bishop Malik from the diocese of Jerusalem to the diocese of Kaliskie.

King Louis: What, couldn't the Pope find some other sap to fill the position?

Henry I'belin: I'm afraid not sire.

On March 23, 1086 the Pope appointed Henry I'belin as Bishop of Galloway. King Louis therefore appointed Mary de Brienne as the new Steward.

The wedding itself was a spendid affair. However it was noted by the absence of Queen Mathilda who with her declining health, was confined to bed most of the time. The Queen died the next year at age 41, with four of her five children at her deathbed, with Princess Sybilla refusing to come. Shortly before she died, Queen Mathilda warned both the King and Prince Ugo about Princess Sybilla. "Make sure Ugo gets married as soon as he's of age. If not, and something happens to him, the whole country will suffer under Sybilla's violent rule. Louis, with that daughter of ours known for her scheming, it would be most unwise to remarry. Therefore you must at all cost keep Ugo alive, and thus keep Sybilla off the throne. If you fail, both Mig and Tuscany will pay dearly for Sybilla's sins." Queen Mathilda was laid to rest three days later in the Royal Tombs at St. James' Church. All of Mig then mourned for her 30 days.

In the year 1089, Princess Juliana married Simon Moriddig, the Count of Gwent. At the wedding, King Louis thought "Good, the more daughters I can marry off, the better chance Ugo got of becoming King."

King Louis: What does it say?

Mary de Brienne: It looks like the local townsfolk asked the governor permission for a provincal assembly to be formed. The governor in turn asked for your approval for the assembly.

Mary de Brienne: Your Majesty, I have a letter from Rome.

King Louis: Who does the Pope want now?

Mary de Brienne: It looks like the Pope as appointed Prince Ugo as the new Bishop of Firenze.

King Louis: At least Prince Ugo will be under his grandmother, the Duchess of Tuscany. However tell Rome that because of the fact that Prince Ugo is the heir to both Mig and Tuscany, he must be allowed to marry.

Mary de Brienne: I'll have Chancellor Hussain and the foreign office write out your reply to Rome.

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: November 3, 1093

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, I have an urgent report from my agents out in the field.

King Louis: What does it say?

Salma al-Mousa: Your nephew Prince Ralph, the new Count of Petra has started a rebellion against you.

King Louis: Send riders out throughout the Royal Provinces to the governors there. Tell them to summon their provincal troops, and to meet with me here at once! Also go and tell the chief jailer that he's going to have some business very soon! When the army is up and gathered here, I'll personally go to Petra, and deal with that nephew of mine!

Salma al-Mousa: I'll have the riders sent out right away sire.

In February of 1094, King Louis and his nephew, the Count of Petra met in battle outside of Tabuk. Seeing the vast forces of his uncle, the Count fled for his life back to Petra. Like a hunter smelling the blood of his prey, King Louis followed his nephew to Petra, and there set a siege to the city. After a month, Petra was captured. As for the spoils, King Louis got 59 pieces of gold; and Blanche Peresia, a distant counsin of the King, was installed as Countess of Petra. As for Ralph Peresia-Petra, King Louis brought his nephew to Jerusalem in chains, where it was said that he was given to Spymaster Al-Mousa's female agents for their "pleasure". Thus the Petra Rebellion was ended.

Episode 7: The Melitene and Damascus Rebellions

In January of 1095, King Louis appointed Eustance Salah as the new Chancellor.

1095Chancellor.bmp

Eustance Salah, Chancellor of the Migite Realm

Royal Palace (King Louis' Office) - Jerusalem: January 28, 1095

Salma al-Mousa: Your Majesty, I have a most urgent report from my field agents in the North.

King Louis: What does it say?

Salma al-Mousa: It says here that the Count of Melitene has rebelled against you.

King Louis: That northern dog that been questioning my honor! Summon your husband Marshal al-Mousa! And tell your girls that they'll have some rebels to take out their "frustrations" on!

Salma al-Mousa: With great pleasure, sire.

On July 9, 1095 while King Louis was marching north to deal with the Count of Melitene, the Count of Damascus rose up in revolt. The King merely decided to deal with the Count of Damascus after Melitene was dealt with. On July 30, 1095 any delusions the Count of Melitene had was dashed during the two week long battle of Melitene. The town itself held out for a month before it fell on September 13, 1095. That same day, Count Henry was brought before King Louis for judgment.

King Louis: You should be hanged for this high treason...but that's too good for you. Therefore, I shall give you to Madame al-Mousa's women. I hear they have grown tired of my nephew, and desire fresh meat! So it shall be said, so it shall be written, so it shall be done!

Thus Count Henry paid for his vicious slander against the King.

With Edith installed as Countess of Melitene, King Louis marched on Damascus, with the former Count Henry in chains. When the Count of Damascus saw his friend in chains, he lost heart and fled from the battlefield. The city then fell after a two month siege. As with the former Count of Melitene, King Louis pronounced judgment upon Count Laurence. He was to be given to Madame al-Mousa's women for their "pleasure", with Joanna being installed as Countess of Damascus.

On April 13 1097, a year after the twin rebellions had been crushed, King Louis died in his sleep at the age of 56. Crown Prince Ugo, Count of Firenze succeeded him as King Hugh.

The Limisol War

On August 12, 1102 while the Royal Army was preparing to assault Limisol, Queen Osterhild gave birth to the royal couple's third child, a daughter. The Queen named her Letizia.

On September 19, 1102; the same day that the troops invaded Limisol, the Prince of Laodikeia revolted against the Byzantines. The Battle of Limisol itself was a one-sided affair with Count Michael driven back to the town. The town of Limisol itself fell after a one month siege. Eustace Salah, former Chancellor of Mig was installed as the new Count of Limisol.

Meanwhile the next three years were more of the same for the Byzantines. With contast revolts rocking both Asia Minor and the Balkans, one would begin to wonder how long will the Byzantine Empire last? And should it fall, who will pick up the pieces?
