They seem to have changed the console in the last patch. How do I start the console now? Because I want to be able to tag switch and use cheats to boost the AI or test different events.
Because you could use it in the lobby before getting in game but with a selected nation to apply cheats, letting you cheat through iron man by setting up all your cheats before having entered iron man mode.Does anyone besides me love to mod and play outside debug-mode? I have serious concerns that this decision will move to other PDX games. I am curious on why this made was even done in the first place. definitely not mod-friendly.

Its really not that much work to add the startup paramater to your launch, and to be honest any modding probably wants debug mode on anyway so you can actually ensure your mods work properly. It really isn't that mod unfriendly.
Note:
One of the changes in this patch is that the in game Console has been disabled by default. To enable it, launch the game using -debug_mode launch command.

You can still use it just enable debug mode from the command line properties in steam or on your exe directly. You just need to enable that before you get into the game to have the console allowed. Is it now impossible to tag-switch in a normal game?
I'd have imagined more people to feel negatively surprised at the console being removed just like that; having a console to use for whatever shenanigans you can imagine felt like a fundamental part of the game to me, being in pretty much all previous games (or at least the ones I played since HOI 2).
Surely it's possible to simply have the console not turn on in the lobby, without removing it wholesale? Or maybe having to enter a certain command, like tdebug, that turns off achievements automatically?
Because the setup for the lobby in the older games is a lot more convoluted in how it gets somewhere and when something is considered to be "in game", there are plenty of debugging console commands one would want to use in the lobby on our end. Its more work to go through every command and block some of them from being usable in the lobby than it is to just disable it unless you turn it on via a command line argument. Sure the time could be put in to doing that, but its a tedious waste of time compared to other things that could be done. What I struggle to understand is how is possible that you have this issue for I:R but not for EU4 and Ck2 :S
