(The Battle of Hattin, circa. 1187)
Halley’s comet hath crossed the heavens, its fiery trail a dread portent of woe. The earth, scourged by blood and pestilence, doth quake beneath the burden of sin.
Behold, the year 1066—a year that shall be graven deep in the chronicles of men. ‘Tis the year wherein the Normans laid England low, their banners unfurl’d o’er Saxon meads, and Harold, stricken in his hour of triumph, yielded his crown to the grave. ‘Tis the year when the Turk pressed hard upon the breast of Byzantium, their crescent moon waxing over Asia’s lands, casting shadows dark and long upon the marches of Christendom.
The Western world, steeped in strife and discord, knoweth no respite. Violence, that unholy spring, poureth forth its crimson tide unending. In this age of iron and devotion, wherein kingdoms fall like leaves in the autumn wind, and faith is tempered as steel in the forge, the seed of Crusade doth take root.
From the farthest bounds of Christendom shall rise the clarion call. Knights and serfs alike, bound by oath to cross and blade, shall tread paths beset with peril. Some shall seek salvation, others renown; yet many shall meet only death. In their deeds, writ in the sands of distant shores, shall be woven a tapestry of man’s frailty and fervor.
The year is 1066. And thus beginneth the tale of the Western Crusaders, whose lives and labours, noble and base, shall echo through the corridors of time.
"Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto."
Thus doth their journey begin.
((Hello, everyone! I'm Angel. I ended up brainstorming for a while on what to do for an AAR. And I figured, why not broaden my horizon a bit. Do something small. So here we are. I'm excited to get this moving, as I am excited for people to see my ideas and help in the creativity and output of this thread.))
