Chapter 2, success!
Olav V was extremely upset over the Swedes had betrayed him and he hated them tremendously. The work however would take much time and require a good economy.
The Norwegian king knew nothing about economics, but relied on his advisors. He had therefore expanding the bureaucracy.
The king was tired, and lonely. Yes, he had been alone a lifetime, a bachelor in his prime. But he needed a wife who could give him an heir.
He had raised the matter with his mother, a very old woman who almost remembered the Black Death. She knew of a cousin to Olav, a very ugly and lonely woman who lived alone in a hut in the woods with her cats. The would be a perfect mate to the king.
The wedding was arranged quickly and no longer than 9 months after birth to a heir. Neither the King nor the new queen could come up with some good names so we had to Olav again.
Olav V had also conceived the idea of an alliance with his old enemy, Denmark, but only to stab against Sweden when it was required. Wedding with some inbred Dane was smoothly arranged and the alliance was a fact. .
Although the two were cousins they started to produce children in a high rate. All the vhildren were married away lika an assembly line to foreign countries in order to strengthen the Norwegian diplomacy.
Norway had strengthened its ties to both Denmark and Novgorod, Sweden's biggest enemies. Soon troops accumulate along the borders.
When Novgorod could no longer wait and troops poured in over the Swedish border could not wait Olav V, but went along with Denmark in war against Sweden.
FOr to finance the war, however, Olav V had to give their old aristocratic friends a little more influence, no Olav V thought was wrong with that.The war was initially very good, with both the new fleet and the new Army made brilliant contributions. The Danes in the south was making progress, and the Novgoronians Friends in the east was making real good progress as well.
Successes by sea and by land made Olav V in great spirits. What could go wrong now?
