This is my first ever AAR, so bear with me if its a little lackluster. I chose South Africa cause my dad was raised there  and because it isn't done very often.

Country: South Africa
Version: 1.03b
Note: I may put in the "war" cheat if need be, if so I will inform you guys of it.

I Jan C. Smuts, head of intel, chief of security, and chief of army will do my utmost to make
South Africa more than a meager commonwealth nation and will keep track of the
progress it makes in my diary.

January 1, 1936: A new year dawns over the tense world. I believe the world
will descend into a second great bloodletting. However this could be to our advantage.
With much focus being on Germany and Italy and the ingenuitive Japanese maybe it will
be possivle to create an empire out of the chaos that will ensue. South Africa however,
be in no position to expand for a long while. We have started improving ifnrastructure in
the inland provinces, but otherwise left everything as is. We have only two divisions, and
ill-equipped at that. We also have a piss-poor navy, with only two out-of-date destroyers.
We have very little amounts of men to draw from (mostly due to the fact we do not accept
africans into the army which I regret) only about 286,000. We do not have enough industries
nor the resources to wage any longlasting war. We have started researching a basic computer
which will alow any future researching to be much more efficient. Our first creation of units
is a disgrace, only two transports, but that is enough to allow us to project our might onto
foreign shores.

January 6, 1936: A major conference is held today. The members of the South African
cabinet meet in the capital of Kaapstadt (Cape Town) to discuss our diplomatic future. Nicolaas
Havenga, the armaments minister brought up a controversial point, should we break from Mother
Britain and forge our own path? or should we stay with them which will keep things stable but
prevent any chance of South Africa expanding its power base. For now we will adopt a wait and see
technique. But when a opportunity is within our grasp, I, nay South Africa will not let it go by.

I don't know what to do diplomatically. I really think I should at least break away from the Commonwealth and expand a little bit.
(I mean I am in a good location for expanding, west is the Americas, East is the Middle East and the Far East).
Any ideas/suggestions/criticism is appreciated.
Just don' be OVERLY harsh (i.e. you suck at writing AAR's etc. etc.)

Break away and enjor your freedom. That is until some major power comes and decides he likes your location and pounds you to the ground.:D

I would stay in the CW and the Allies. You can get free tech that way :).

OK hi guys I think I will stay with CW for a little more longer (just for the tech). But how do you post screenies? I took a few but don't know how to put em' in here. Upadate will be up later today.

Hey all I'm gonna post an update after I get MOST of my homework done. After that I'll try and post two or three screenies.

P.S. After I make it, I needa decide my future (diplomatically and territory wise). So any suggestions/ideas would be pleased cause basically I'm just meandering through the late 30's

:p

January 18, 1936: I discovered to my horror that our only two divisions are not even at
full strength. They were only about 3/10 manned. I remedied it with a draft to fill those ranks.
The Cabinet is still split over what direction we will head.

January 26, 1936: Right now it has been agreed, that we shall stay with the Commonwealth.
The deciding factor was that Canada shared with us the knowlede of "Naval Aviation". We shall stay
and absorb all the research we can. But if the golden opportunity is present then by all means
we shall go for it.

March 8, 1936: We have recieved more techs from our Commonwealth brethren. Also in world
news, Germany re-occupied the Rhineland and recieved nothing more than a slap on the wrist (if that)
The chinese also chose to temporarily unite in the Sian Incident, to face the imminent Japanese
threat.

April 2, 1936: The transport are complete! The South African Army can now slice through
the seas and invade hostile coasts if need be. I have been toying with the idea of attacking a
country, but which one? Portugal is possible. No no no! Even they have a greater army than us.
There is very little chance we could win against them on the mainland. Hmmm..... We could attack
a south american country, but we need some more support for war. I will wait until the time is right.
I will bring up the idea of conquest in the meetings though.

April 3, 1936: I have ordered the formation of two new units, a 3rd infantry division and
a transport, though the transport is only half funded it will save time in its construction.
Better to have it 30 days done then proceed 100 percent then have to wait until the inf. is done
and then proceed with its construction.

June 2, 1936: It is done! We have finished researching the neccesaries to create a powerful
computer capable of lowering other research we shall start. We will now start on the basic things
needed for a powerful infantry. We start researching a basic service rifle and use the excess IC's
to start an underfunded project on medium bomber engines. We desire the power to rain death on our
enemies with bombs from above.

July 4, 1936: If I am correct, today is a holiday in the US. But that is not the reason I am
entering into my log. Today the 3rd division of our army is finished. I immediately assign it to the
1st South African Army under the command of General Theron, who is firm believer of offensive
operations. We have used the recently freed up IC's to fuel our research and to create a surplus
of supplies and consumer goods.

July 18, 1936: Today, on my birthday we have recieved word that Spain has become embroiled in
a civil war. I beleive that the Republicans should achieve victory. I know not how to help them.
Perhaps share with them our technological wisdom and give them and edge..... I believe we must
preserve democracy on that continent known as europe but I do not know if it will thrive in these
tense times. I will do my best to preserve the rights of the people.

August 30, 1936: Our army has grown a mite bit stronger. We have given out the new rifles
to all our men. They were pleased with the durability of it. They practiced their aim out in the wilds
by shooting a few springbok. We will soon be a power to be reckoned with. As the spaniards kill
their brethren over ideologies, I am happy to report that the republicans have routed Franco's army in
the north, and have taken their capital Burgos. There are many rumors of Franco's fate. Most likely he
will be shot by an enraged republican soldier who finds him. But I feel no pity for him, he brought it
on himself. With our freed up IC's we will research into fighters. I believe that we do not have
enough IC's to research all kinds so we will start looking into medium range fighter engines and such.

September 16, 1936: Our medium bomber engines are complete. We now need an efficient design for
it so we started the funding for that project. Also I have heard we shall start works on a new vehicle
radio set, this will alow commanders to make accurate well founded decisions in "real time". This project,
though underfunded, will set the stage for future improvements in many fields.

November 4, 1936: The charismatic FDR won his third term today. He leads a country with vast
industrial bases, and many men. I long for more industries to power our country and more men to fill
our ranks. But alas, in our current position I can but hope. I also long for more resources. We have
no rubber, and our oil stockpile cannot hold out. But this year is coming to a close, and a new year is a
fresh start. A fresh start will bring us new hope, new joy, new pain, but most of all opportunities. This
year lacked any event ripe for exploitation, but that, I hope will soon change.

November 27, 1936: We have made our first step towards achieving a powerful airforce. We have
developed the medium range fighter engines. But alas their are more steps before we can have a mass
production model. I give the go-ahead to start a project to find out how aerodynamics will alow us to
build our fighters. Anything to modernize our info. I just recently heard from a foreign observer that
tanks are becoming the new coveted arm of the army. I believe that to be true, but I dont believe we
could research this as of yet. Cavalry, I see, may be the poor man's panzers. Hmmmm..... I will consider this
for a while.

December 13, 1936: We have just finished the medium bomber airframe, allowing us to develop prototypes
for it now. But that costs more than we can reasonably afford at this time so I will postpone it for now.
Also recently our allies in the far north of the american continent have shared with us the technolongy
for Aviation Radar. Also we will start researching a 30 mm+ gun that will give our afrikaner warriors
an edge on the battlefield.

December 24, 1936: The new year is at our doorstep. Christmas Eve is upon us, and our New
Zealand chums have given us a very lovely gift. They have told us how to implement airborne warfare
techniques. This will help us immensely when we can correctly apply it.

Decemver 28, 1936: This year will start out harder than suspected. We have had an economic
crash due to a lack of coal. I dont know how we can remedy this situation. We must now seriously take
into consideration the expansion of our borders. We have little resources in our country. To alleviate this
slightly, I have ordered that 1st ACF division be put in th force pool, to lower supply demand.
The cabinet then agrees that we must lower our research spending to meet our minimum consumer demands.

January 1st, 1937: The new year is upon us, which is a mixed blessing. We have improved the
roads and railways in a number of provinces. The cabinet is summoned for an important meeting. We
all meet in the great city of Johannesburg, or Jo'burg for short. We have decided that we will continue
our military expansion and to keep our alliance with Britain and France and the Commonwealth for now.
We are planning a small military exercise, with luck there will be little backlash. We are plannig on either
two things. The takeover of Cuba as a staging ground in Caribbean, or attack Liberia, which will give
us a forward post into Europe and North Africa, and partially into the Caribbean. This is all closed door
talk, and we will not tell anyone. For now it is only a remote possibility. The south american countries
are rich in resources, oil in Venezuela, and there is a significant amount of rubber scattered over that
landmass. We must wait, for we are the cobra, patient as long as need be. When the time comes we will
strike and make the country of South Africa a significant player in politics and in the battlefield.
For now, both are only hopes......
