I'm attempting my first ck2 aar. It's gonna be to be like a chronical of heads of house Targaryens and their reigns. I'm two rulers in. My goal is to reach 300AL and if the game is still stable I'll keep going until it refuses to go anymore.

Welcome to AAR writing. I hope you have a good time here.

Thanks, I find my problem is that doing the writing becomes a chore after a while I'm hoping the style of AAR will give more time between entries on average so I can actually finish one.

Aegon “The Conqueror” The First of his Name

Reign 1 A.L. - 46 A.L.

Titles

His Magnificence, His Excellency, His Grace, Emporer of The New Valyrian Freehold, Emporer of The Gulf of Grief, Emporer of The Andals and The Rhoynar and The First Men, Great Archon of The Colonies of Old Valyria, Protector of the Free Cities and all of The East, Master of The Rhoyne, Master of Mereen, Astapor, and Yunkai, Lord of The Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of The Realm, Lord of Old Valyria, Lord and Ruler of King’s Landing.

In 2 B.C. Aegon The First of his name landed in Blackwater Bay after the hands of his envoy where cut off when Argilac Durrandon rejected his offer to marry Orys to his Daughter Argella since Aegon had no need for a Third Wife. Aegon vowed, “There would only be one king.”

He first invaded the kingdom of the Iron Isles with all of the houses that would later make up the crownlands swearing fealty and ultimately bringing house Hoare to heel. Although he curiously sparred their seat of Harrenhal from dragon fire. Some say the castle would have been cursed forever if he had bathed it in fire. Curiously he did take the lands of Harren “The Black” that were legally part of The Trident along with the possessions of house Codd in the aforementioned Trident. He granted Harrenhal to Quenton Qoherys a Valyrian retainer of his. He let house Hoare keep the Iron Isles and awarded House Tully The Trident.

Aegon Would invade the Rock next with the lords of Byford swearing fealty. Aegon tamed the Lannister Lion after he defeated the host of King Loren at the battle of Deep Den capturing King Loren in battle afterwards he would name him lord of the Westerlands after Loren swore oaths of fealty and gave up his crown.

Aegon would invade The Reach since they had aided the Lannisters in resisting him. The lords of Dalston Keep and Farring cross would bend the knee to Aegon. Aegon would lay siege to Highgarden and capturing most of the Gardner family before meeting any Gardner host in battle. The Gardners surrendered their crown and bent the knee. Aegon was coronated by the High Septon in Starry sept converting his few Vassals that believed in the old gods of Valyria into followers of The Seven.

Aegon Marched on the Stormlands and Storms End after he subdued The Reach. The Stormlords that would later make up the crownlands would all bend the knee. Argilac met Aegon in the field of battle was captured after he lost the duel to Aegon. Argilac kept his lands and titles except for the Rainwood which Aegon granted to house Cole.

Aegon marched through the Dornish Marches to bend house Martell until they broke and eventually bowed the efforts of Princess Meria where for nought as House Targaryen and their vassal lords took most of the Dornish nobility prisoner and subdued their armies.

Houses Stark and Arryn soon bent the knee and were named lords of the North and Vale respectively avoiding much bloodshed and peacefully joining the king's peace.

Aegon Declared war on all of the Free Cities at once citing his dragons gave him the right to conquer the daughters of Old Valyria. They all submitted to the dragon and gave the Old Andal lords lordship over Andalos again. Aegon used his new found wealth to fund massive construction projects in Westeros.

Aegon dreamed of restoring Essaria and declared war on the cities and kingdoms of Astapor, Meeren, Yunkai, Hazdahn and New Ghis. They all marched to war and the Dragon broke them like Valyria had broken the lockstep legions of Old Ghis. He peacefully integrated the lords of the Lazarareen naming Lazosh the capital and the lord of Lazosh lord paramount of the region.

Aegon had more Wealth than he could possibly imagine from the conquest of Slaver’s Bay and spent it rebuilding old Ghis, the Rhoyne, and the Ruins of north Valyria naming lords of those regions before marching off to war with the Dothraki Khals who held the lands of Essaria, Volantis and The Skahazdahn. He crowned himself Emporer of New Valyria and Ghiscar after his borders in Essos were secure.

Aegon’s reign outside of the Conquest, the three Revolts against him(due to vassals refusing to obey the king's piece and face justice at his hands), and the war of Astaporian Independence was a long and prosperous one lasting 45 years in total. He and his hand built a network of roads in the seven kingdoms and errected the Red Keep. He expelled the pirate lords of the stepstones with little bloodshed after a failed raid on kings landing in 33 AL. Naming house Baratheon Lords of the region. Aegon had two sons and three daughters a son and daughter from Visyena and a son and two daughters Rhaenys. Aegon named his son Daegar prince of Dragonstone and wed him to his sister Baena in 14 AL

Oh, a historical AAR. Always like those.

Out of curiosity, is Daegar the son of Visenya or Rhaenys?

Visenya but his wife is Rhaeny's first born Aegon's second son Balaeron which is also his youngest is Rhaeny's I have to write the story of Daegar's reign even if it was brief Aegon lived to be 73 before he died of natural causes. The Targaryen tree is about 17 people where I am at in the playthrough, but I also made less than optimal gameplay decisions during Daegar's reign just to see what would happen if I did since I have so many heirs. I actually like the preconquest Baratheon coat of arms a lot hopefully the rgn gods keep them alive. Any feedback would be lovely though.

Daegar "The Black" The First of his Name

Reign. 46 A.L-57A.L

Daegar's rule was tested only two years into his reign when Yunkaii led a rebellion for independence in 48 A.L half of his Essosi vassal's joined Yunkai, but Daegar lived up to the words of his house and brought Fire and Blood upon Yunkai capturing Lady Azhara in the siege and letting his rebellious vassals bend the knee. Daegar would finish the fortifications of Kings Landing and the last of his father's attempts to build a royal fleet. A great sickness spread through Essos in A.L. 50 but it passed quickly. Daegar was 48 when he took the throne he had three wives his sister-wife Baena who bore him 3 sons and daughters although one son died stillborn and died under suspicious circumstances, Aelinor head the daughter of a mercenary captain who bore him two daughters, and was executed for adultery whilst pregnant, and Lady Paramount Mariah "The Eagle "of Dorne who survived him and bore him a son and daughter whom take the name Martell. Daegar had nine surviving children but only 3 surviving sons. His son Aemond "The Bold" was married to his sister-wife Visenya and granted Dragonstone in AL 46. Balerion Targaryen the second son of Commander Balaeron of kings gate the second son of Aegon "The Conqueror" joined the Nightswatch along with his dragon Bloodfyre and was granted Darksister.

Quite the Empire all gathered under the Conqueror's sway.

If the ai was better about joining factions the empire would implode. I had to modify the law files to make it work the vassal limit but I did mostly because those are three regions the Valyrians actually conquered they brought Old Ghis to heel and colonized what is new valyria and the Targaryens unified the seven kingdoms. I actually enjoy it because the Dynasty prestige goes up quickly but I have about as many dragons as living Targaryens not to mention the half dozen eggs my kinsmen have. The great spring sickness was underwhelming like in my test runs because it spawned in essos and won't spread to my court. I have played through the next two kings and written one and plan to start the other in a few hours.

Aemond “The Bold” The First of his Name

Reign 57 A.L-69 A.L.

Aemond “The Bold” was a Kinslayer having killed his grandmother Rhaenys in personal combat. The High Septon would forgive this mortal sin shortly after his coronation. Aemond would have 5 sons and a daughter although only two outlived him with his firstborn being stillborn along with his youngest and prince Baelon dying in a joust. Aemond granted his heir Valerion Dragonstone in 57 AL. and had Valerion wed his older sister in 57 AL Aemond was a tourney knight even after he became king winning or placing at a tourney of all levels almost every year until he became infirm. In 60 A.L. he would build a great Sept for the faith naming it after himself. In the year 62 A.L. He would fight in a trial by combat representing his daughter Maegelle against her husband and Aemond’s heir Valerion Prince of Dragonstone. Slaying Otherys a lowborn courtier in personal combat proving her innocence and she fled to Aemond’s court from her husband. In 63 A.L Aemond would become sickly and infirm going blind from old age 6 years later in 69 A.L. and dying months later.

One has to say, those titles are starting to become quite the mouthful (not that Westerosi regal titles are ever short usually)

I kinda like it in a weird way the prestige gain from holding all of those titles and vassals is amazing. Characters will often die with well over 5000 prestige Aegon "The Conqueror" died with like 65k worth of score. I'm kinda surprised this has gotten so little attention overall. I like what I am doing and I'm hoping when I finally write about the next reign the story will get a bit better having really good kings has gotten stale in my opinion.

He had quite the peaceful reign, when you get to it. However, Valerion seems quite the evil prince, and now he got the throne. I doubt he'll be able to keep the peace...

Valerion “The Butcher” The First of his Name

Reign 69 A.L. - 77 A.L.

Valerion “The Butcher” had had by the time he was king seven children two of which were bastards with his aunt and sister-in-law Gael Targaryen. Valerion had three lovers his sister in law, his mother and, a commoner named Manysa. In 69 A.L he had his brother Balerion murdered near a grassy knoll giving him his nickname and staining him with only a fraction the dishonour he would later earn. He would grant his heir prince Vaegon Dragonstone despite him only being 14 in 69 AL. In 70 A.L. The High Septon would excommunicate him for his kin-slaying. In 70 A.L his wife Maegelle Targaryen would confess to adultery with Commander Luthor of The Warrior sons. “The Butcher” would try her for it but she was acquitted. Valerion would feed Archon Gorzhak II of Meeren to his dragon Maelar in 71 A.L. Qohor lead a small rebellion against The Tyranny of Emporer Valerion “The Butcher” which prompted him to feed his sister-in-law Jeyne Tully to his dragon for her father’s treason. The Norvosi also rebelled for their independence and Emporer Valerion rode into war despite his gout. He did, however, grant Blackfyre to his heir prince Vaegon. In 73 A.L The High Priest of Norvos was captured after the siege of Norvos. The Qhorik rebellion ended shortly after as Westerosi lords flocked to the Emporer’s banner. Although his reign stood on a knife edge with his vassals plotting to put various claimants on the throne. Prince Vaegon of Dragonstone married his only sister later that year. In 75 A.L Empress Maegelle died from her gout prompting Emporer Vaegon to get married to his niece Vaera who was rumoured to be his daughter due to her mother Gael’s adultery which in turn put the paternity of all five of Balerion's children in question. In 76 A.L an attempt on his life was made near a scroll depositary much in the same way he killed his brother. Later that year he would sell his cousin Kyra Durradon into slavery it is rumoured he visited her cell. Prince Vaegon would found a bank in Dragonstone. In 77 A.L he would have his cousin Franklyn Martell fed to his dragon despite the court ruling him innocent. Later that year Leslyn Tully an alleged faceless man poisoned “The Butcher’ giving him a fitting end to his reign. He left the realm on a knifes edge and his son Vaegon is the first Targaryen to inherit the realm without a male heir.

Mmm, one expects fireworks in the time of his successor.

Vaegon “The Tolerant” The First of his Name

77 A.L.- 89 A.L.

Titles.

Vaegon had four children his first two where girls and his last two were boys. Vaegon spent most of the early years of his reign defending the realm from rebellions. A grand total of 4 wars were raged against him The War of Meerenese indepedence in 77 A.L, The war against the Tyranny of Emporer Vaegon in 78 A.L.,

The Pentoshi war of Indepedence in 83 A.L., and The 2nd war against the Tyranny of Emporer Vaegon in 83 A.L. The war of Meerenese indepedence was a rather short war for no sooner had Emporer Vaegon had landed near he used his dragon apon the great city and capturing it’s lady Bezqa ending the war. The war against the Tyranny of Emporer Vaegon was declared by Benarr Tully lord paramount of the Riverlands. The Riverlands were covered in dragon fire as Vaegon battled hosts in the tens of thousands to keep his throne. The war of Pentoshi indepedence ended when Vaegon captured Archon Conos Thelis of Pentos after the seige of Pentos. The 2nd war against the Tyranny of Emporer Vaegon saw most of the realm side with Emporer seiging down Lorath as the Emporer fought hosts in hills of Andalos. Emporer Vaegon conquered the Basilisk isles and colonized Gogossos in 85 A.L. Emporer Vaegon fell off a balcony in 89 A.L some suspect foul play but no one has found the killer. Vaegon left his son Rhaegal the throne at age 10.

So Vaegon may have been setup - that is quite interesting.

I kinda wish I knew who killed him. But on the other hand, I did have the longest reign I've ever had playing ck2 with Rhaegal so it worked out I guess the rng gods have been really good to me this game I haven't had lunatics in the mainline yet and most are quick or geniuses. I do have one problem more dragons than Targaryens the event spam to deal with all of those wild dragons gets old.

I kinda wish I knew who killed him.

I think that if you go in observe through console command, the skull of suspicious accident will show red and you'll be able to find out (I think)
