So I have been reviewing and streaming Paradox games since Utopia was released for Stellaris. But before that, I was a massive fan of Crusader Kings 2.
I was going through a rough spot, was pretty depressed most of the time, really was throwing myself into Game of Thrones. I enjoyed the intrigue and drama of the series and was looking for a game to help mimic it. I found an article about the GoT mod for CK2 and instantly was in love.
The mod stability was a bit all over the place back then, so I didn't stick with it and decided to focus on learning the base game. I had a pal south of the border (I'm from Canuckland), and we started playing together as a pair of Irish lords.
It became our obsession. It is all we did. Wake up early, stay up late, Crusader Kings 2 all the time. I can't express how much playing and learning that complicated game helped me through such a rough part of my life.
Now, years later, CK3 is announced. Things are much better for me, and I am often busy with streaming or writing reviews, so I don't get much time to game with my old pal as I used to. But you bet your best sword that he and I will be back at it again when CK3 launches.
I look forward to following the development closely and look forward to more and more info being drip-fed to us.
While I am a little saddened to see Merchant Republics go, I completely understand the reasoning.
What little we have seen for the new character skill mechanics, the extrapolation from the Way of Life DLC, looks amazing. CK2 has always felt like my favourite RPG that was never meant to be an RPG. Now that they seem to be leaning more into it, I can't wait to see what happens.
