Hello, CK is my favourite game and this is my first AAR.
I will use different countries and I will follow the "Ephesiotes" family.
I will use some cheats in order to make the story more interesting.
Another thing, my english is not-so-good, please correct me in case! ;)
Now, let's go!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Year 1205. Patrikios of Ephesos has been finally murdered. The Eastern Roman Empire is dying and the Angelos dinasty is almost extinguished.
Intrigues, homicides, wars and massacres are ruining the lands from Serbia to Armenia. Two men are guilty for this mess: Peter Assen, former king of Bulgaria, now Roman-Bulgarian Emperor, and Patrikios of Ephesos.

But who was Patrikios of Ephesos? At the beginning he was an ambitious count of an insignificant town, Ephesus. Historians remember he was cruel, he killed his wife twice and one of his daughters. But he was the first to raise arms against the Rum Sultanate, the once powerful turk nation in Anatolia. He marched alone with Ephesus towards Ankyra and built another feud for himself. Emperor Isaakios Angelos prized him, and followed his war destroying the sultanate. In 1200, the turks were no more in that region. In addiction, Patrikios recieved Trabzon and Ani, which gifted to his daughter. The conflict with the Imperial authority begun when Patrikios invaded Cypros with his own forces and obtained the title of Prince of Cypros, but did not secede from the Empire. Historians wrote that Patrikios went crazy when he was at Cyprus.

At Cyprus he conjured against the emperor. He ordered homicides against the most fellow vassals of Alexios Angelos (heir of Isaakios) and contacted Peter Assen, king of Bulgaria. In few months, bulgarian troops marched through Thrace. The emperor sent the troops of his feud, but these were corrupted and deserted. Alexios was obliged to give up his rights and gifted the crown to Peter Assen, who was crowned Roman-Bulgarian Emperor in the fortress of Tzurullon, not far from Constantinople.

Assen's empire did not last long. The old vassals refuse to swear for him, and - this is a thing that historians do not clearly explain - Patrikios of Ephesus, Prince of Cyprus, did not recognize Peter Assen as roman emperor.
The reaction of the bulgarian king was as fast as cruel: he ordered to kill all the vassals who did not accept his dominion. Patrikios of Ephesus was one of this: he was killed and his young son, Theodoros of Ephesus became Prince of Cyprus.

Bulgarian kingdom fell, destroyed in the civil wars. Indipendent duchies spread all over Greece, while anatolian counts remained neutral. Peter Assen was obliged to give up the roman crown. The child Theodoros of Ephesus was made Emperor of the Roman Empire by a large group of greek nobles from Anatolia. Thrace with Constantinople remained to Bulgaria.

The central Anatolia swear loyalty to the 10-years-old child Theodoros, hoping to manipulate him, while most of greek territories declared indipendence. Many historians declare 1206 as the end of the roman empire...

...but what this young soldier do? Will he be manipulated from powerful anatolian nobles? Or he will rebuild the empire? And what is going to happen in the Balkans, where there are almost no imperial counties?

Cool. Welcome! :D

If you'd like, we also need warm bodies to fill short terms at the papacy over at the College of Cardinals. :)

Another thing, my english is not-so-good, please correct me in case!

Assuming you don't want people to post edits here, you want pms about it?

Now, let's go!

[Starts humming "Heyho"]

Coupla ideas:
a, unless you don't like them, some screenshots usually help out your readers. Press f11 ingame; the pics will show up in your CK directory as bitmaps; change them into jpegs and you can store them a bunch of places online. I like imageshack.

b, I'm not certain from your text, so you might think of putting in something letting people know (i) what mods you're using (ii) what scenario you're starting with and (iii) what your difficulty and aggression settings are. (ii) is the biggie. :D

c, I'm working on modding an improvement of the 1204 scenario which has a cool Epirot dynasty and kingdom if you like to use them by themselves or know when the whole deal's ready.

d, Sounds appropriately Byzantine, so good job so far! :) Good luck!

COOL! That's great! But.. does a 1204 scenario already exists?!?

Uhm, I dont like Byzantine because is a word that was born centuries after the empire collapsed. I feel it too "unhistorical". I hope that's not a problem!

Thanks!!!

Note: I'm not sure this is the best way to show screenshots. Tell me if other ways are better.

Year 1207. Young Theodoros Of Ephesus has been crowned roman emperor by anatolian nobles. The west duchyies declare independence while old bulgarian kingdom falls.

Here you may notice how many counties in the east have declared independence and didn't recognized the child as emperor. Constantinople is still occupied by bulgarians, but actually their dominion is falling. Meanwhile, strong independent states are born in Greece: only Dyrrachium and Hellas are loyal to the young Thedoros. Many princes and dukes announce the end of the empire... while the "Child of Ephesos" deny their sentences?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Young Theodoros showed from the beginning of his reign maturity and wisdom. A new court around him emerged, but actually the boy never acted like a puppet: he showed strong personality from the first days, when he condemned different conjurates against his throne. His mother was an Angelos, one of the daughters of the old Isaakios: with the abilities she taught him at Cyprus, the 13-years-old emperor managed to keep the Empire in one piece; his chancellor managed to peacefully convince the paeloponnesian prince to join the Empire. The first Dux guided troops from Dyrrachion and Hellas at the gates of the rebel Athens, and then annexed it.
At the end of 1208, Theodoros ordered to march against the last bulgarian fortresses and his generals from Abydos and Nicomedia managed to conquest back Constantinople and Thrace. The young Emperor moved his court to the old city on Bosphorus and give the province of Dorylaeion - his former capital - to the bishop of Ankyra. He was about to end his military training, he was the youngest chief actually reigning, and he was already a concern for infidels and separatist forces.

Here's the empire map at 1209.

The first remarkable thing Thedoros Imp. made was to move war to the albanian emirate, which invaded and conquered Kaliopolis, near Constantinople, two years before. This time Theodoros lead the army himself and crushed the turks, then procedeed toward the independent principality of Thessalonika. This city fell soon, and the principality was annexed. Meanwhile, the bulgarian kingdom of Nikolai (maybe son of Peter? I never found it out) was struck by civil war and the albanian turks, so Theodoros moved nord and conquered large parts of Bulgaria from the turks. There he met the bulgarian army and destroyed it: the force of that enemy was fading.

In 1212, young 18-years-old Theodoros surrendered to passion and had a bastard son, Basileios. (I'm not sure "bastard" is the correct english way to say.) Eventually, he married the 22-years-old Krisztina Arpad, one of the daughters of the magyar king Imre Arpad. She soon became pregnant.
It is important to note that hungarians lead a crusade in Anatolia few years before. In 1212, they were still keeping the province of Chaldea, on the Black Sea.

Before 1214, Theodoros led his last war against Bulgaria, but in a quite strange way. Eventually, the prince of Peloponnesus defeated the bulgarians once again. Nikolai was sent in exile, and the prince crowned himself King of Bulgaria... for few months, the Kingdom of Bulgaria was formed by only Peloponnesian provinces, obviously seceding from the empire. Theodorus moved against the traitor at once, putting him to death and taking him the title of Prince of Peloponnesus. The title of king of Bulgaria was no more, as the bulgarian lands were divided between the empire and hostile independent counts.

Young Theodoros has showed his strength: will this assure his crown? And what new enemies will threat the empire?

Note: empire situation in 1214 is almost the same.
