First of all I do not claim any of this to be true or statistical proven. There are offcourse always exceptions on both sides. It´s just my personal view of the EU II community.

Though I´m newbie in the EU II mp, I´m not a newbie in mp in general. My mp gaming experience´s started with Starcrafts era and have successfully continued since...( yes ppl, I might be to old to keep playing games) :)
Anyhow, since those days I´ve been playing various of games and ppl and my general feeling are that the players "here" is much more mature, helpful and pretty overseeing with you beeing a newbie and such. In some games phrases like "f*cking noob" etc are fairly common.(on a day 2 day basis I would say) Newbies here are treated with more respect and therefore feel more welcome. In some games you have 2 fight hard to get there, and many when they do start treating ppl the same themselves. The reason for this I dont claim to know. Maybe increased average age? something to do with the nature of the game?
Still, do not know. But reason is unimportant as long as it stays like this!
This is by far to this point the best community I´ve been a part of!
Kudos to all of you that made me feel welcome! To the rest of you to... :D
My only regret is that I could have been a member of this community a LONG time ago since I bought the game when it came out!

sincerely

I second you all the way zag.

EDIT: Btw, I also started my MP gaming with starcraft ;) What a coincedence.

i play with buddies MP starcraft from time to time still :) It is fun unless you go deeply to comparation - Starcraft game can be clearly calculated because there is no random factor and that will be mathematical game.

My MP experience started with Command & Conquer, Doom 2, Red Alert, Duke Nukem, Warcraft I, Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games

Dammit Tonio, you take the fun out of every game with your damn calculations  :p .

Starcraft is fun, but for some reason my copy doesnt work.

Well, I'm not counting LAN games with that but only internet MP, where you really have a community.

By the way, I think Starcraft is actually less statistical than EU2. In EU2 it's far easier to tell who is going to win at the start than in Starcraft. With Starcraft, since there is no random factor, it all comes down to the skill of the player, which has it's merit IMO.

It is, log into battlenet sometime, still thousands of players playing. You need the latest version of broodwar though, the original is not played that much anymore. And on the European server you will only find games at certain times (sundays and evenings in CET ;)) but it's still nice to play. Haven't done it in a while though.... I probably suck now ;)

This goes way off-topic btw, sorry for that.

Every time I hear tonio talking about numbers, I get the Teddybears Stockholm song "We are the robots" in my head. :D

We are the robots! Ding Ding Ding Dong!
We are the robots! Ding Ding Ding Dong!
We are the robots! Ding Ding Ding Dong!
We are the robots! Ding Ding Ding Dong!

EU2 gives you impression by overview. At Starcraft you can plan every further step, because there are no unknown factors. You can judje by effectiveness of every unit by cost/building time comparing together with speed, attack/defence. Once you make investigation you`ll start to find ideal combination. The rest skill of the top player is Quake ability - be able to produce as much possible click as possible, like in Quake-type games. I remember that Starcraft players rated themselves by this value. I refuced to play SC outside buddies because i have no interest to convert the strategic game to the shooting game (which i`m not fan of :) ).

Way off topic... :D
Playing starcraft ag would be a trip down memory lane... Wasnt it a ranking system, where wins and losses was displayed? Or am I thinking of Tiberian sun? Got 2 try the zerg rush again!

Unknown factors are what the other players do ;) Anyway, you are right that "good" players are able to click a lot... but I think the average battlenetter is really not on that level. They usually mess up in tactics and micromanagement.

EDIT: there is a ladder system with points concerning wins and losses, yes.

always hated rush to kill the spirit of the game. Longterm development and battles are fun  I remember games when resources are over at standart Hunters game :D

So playing SC for the long time you wouldn`t see much perspective for yourself. Use known way to become extra top player by learning math side and training click skill (i believe that math side is probably even published for all this years of the game), or be kind of newbie playing by impression and loosing to top players. It is hard to restrict desires of many players to play better, so they will be turned to idealism side, meaning first math calculations. So i suppose that playing with unknown internet players would give you only short term fun, and you rather quickly drop SC :p

Aaah! Hunters, this excellent mp map! But when the resources were gone it kinda sucked! Better with the modified hunters map then...
Always liked to play protoss...There carriers were mean! :D

Risking to sound like an arrogant, intellectual twit I still claim that it has something to do with the average level of education/intelligence in this community.
Eu II and especially Eu II MP seems to attract a certain group of people i.e. a lot of students and guys doing some kind of computerbased job (as the game needs a lot of time to be correctly understood which most people are not willing to invest). While there are - of course - exceptions to this I still have the feeling that the atmosphere here reflects these said facts. I would guess that we have an average age of something in the mid 20s and a pretty positive vibration (for all of you esoterics out there :D). Also we (luckily) have no Spammers or seriously psychopathic individuals...or at least I haven´t had the pleasure of meeting them yet.

True. I never spam.

:D

Btw, latest version for Starcraft is 1.13, I have found a NoCD too (jeez I am so glad for those things... installing starcraft costs me over an hour because the CD is so fucked up)
