Check out the new scenario in the user-submitted mods forum. It's a multiplayer game designed for pickup games when you don't want to invest the time developing all the way from 1936, but you're like me and hate the 1939 and 1941 scenarios where you start out in the middle of the war with a lousy disposition. You start at September 1, 1938, and nobody is at war. Every major nation has all its major options open before it and has been competently developed by a player who has played a number of multiplayer games. Check it out, especially if you're a ValkyrieNet cruiser like me.
 
I have only had a quick look at Germany and USSR. Maybe I will try it out sometime, but the reason people don´t like starting in 39/41 is that there little time to personalize your county. In this save game, someone else have done that for you. There will always be things you should have done diffrently.
Why build mec-AA? why not improve IC in the middle of siberia etc. Sorry, but I´ll probably start most of my games in 36 if I want to go ahistorical and 39 if I want to go historical.
 
True you give something up with this scenario, namely complete detailed personalization of your country. But you gain a very good set-up with most of your options wide open, and best of all, war is right around the corner not hours and hours of research, etc.

If you want a quick game that starts at peace but allows a rapid entry into war this is it.
 
Good Job

Fpolli and Tank did a good job putting this together...it is much needed by the HoI community. Sure, some players will find that this country or that isn't developed along the lines they normally follow...but the benefit you gain in saved time and fun far outweigh such quibbles.
 
I personally would prefer to see a game that starts in 1933 and allows MORE political manueverings and posturing pre-big game

BUT

1938 is a much better start point for a "jump right in" game than 39. Nice job.
 
Fighters

Medium range fighters can intercept over neighboring provinces better, and have to be moved less frequently, thus handling the stupid half-org penalty better. They can also bomb troops in a pinch and escort your dive bombers without shortening the range. For the time being, they can escort tac bombers. But the escort fighters have the same range as your tac bombers, so you can put an escort with your tac bombers and not drop their range from 600 km to 200km. They can also escort strat bombers if you ever use those.

As for the subs, not my personal choice, but when you have all of France and can put a sub next to each beach province and get warning of approaching invasion fleets before they drop troops on the shore, you'll be thankful for those subs.

What changes? By 38 the Advanced BB's and CA's should already be in research (or researchable), with advanced DD's almost ready to be researched. For Japan that is.
 
There were tech sharing rules man, I had to research all those God-awful infantry and artillery techs. Also focused a bit on naval bombers, as that is my preference.

It isn't as if I just sat there with an extra 50 IC's not being used the whole time.

The extra changes he is talking about with Japan is making it Paternal Autocrat. Wish my elections happened in 37, I might have been able to do more ship techs and not had to crank up my CG every time I changed a minister.

Yes, PA

We added a few techs and units for USA so it is not so invasion-vulnerable early. We made Japan PA because the elections never happened, and a democratic Japan was screwing up the game (USA warentry). We need to fix the convoys for Japan. The default convoys for Japan in 1936 have no oil going anywhere, and Lunar did not change them. So we need to send oil to Japan's territories for its fleets to use. I might look at Germany and Russia and make some minor adjustments. For the most part, it is a completed work.
