That is my first Thread about the game a its stages now. I Played on 1.3 and 1.4. Was full of little bugs and I was playing with Sparta and Nervia. Almost more than ten years that I didn't play with Rome in any strategic game and these days I decided to play with Rome on Iron mode Normal, just to get the new updates on the road. And on my first few hours , I started my attempts of expand Rome, first eliminating the Italian nations like Erutria and other on north of Rome, than I march down to Syracuse to stop Carthagin futher steps on this territories. And I can say that the game is excellent in it stages, Carthagian declared war until now four time against me. They still has a up hand against me on the seas. After I got Syracuse territories I advanced a fast attack on Epirus so I could Stop Macedon on their expansion all the way and allied with Thrace and Sparta so I could handle Macedon, upon that I fought Macedon 3 times, they as Carthaginian has a up hand against me on the seas, but on land I can handle them. Thrace now seem be a more of threat than Macedon.

One of must exciting battle was when Civil War break out in Rome and at the same time Carthaginian declared war against me. Was a hard war, I had to handle the Civil War, Maritime wars, Celtics on the North and Carthaginians coming upon Syracuse land and upon the north Celtic land. At the final of this war I executed the traitors, they seemed to be allied with carthagianes. All this exciting war, I still didn't have the Marian Reforms and I just have one Legion divided on 2 or 3 corhors and some times I could get Mercenaries.

Now you can see how the game is now, I'm still developing some area so can produce more gold and became more civilized. I still miss I little of character interaction, I still don't know how espionage works so I can see how many manpower they still have or armies.

How lucky that they declared on you so many times. I do not get this special treatment by the AI. Do you have a mod enabled?

I would love more agression wars to the player. I do not know what I am doing wrong/right.

PS: civil wars feel very good, killing the traitors or pardoning them.

No, just the core with some dlcs that a got on Deluxe Edition and I still don't have the Alexander Pack.

Yeah they declared war against me many times. Sparta and Thrace Broken the Alliance with me now and Sparta allied with Macedon and decided attack me now, as you see now I have small portion of Epirus and Sparta Laconia after that War, they almost won that war because they got the goal of the war, and I have to handle this War with 300 days before they won, but just to explain I got the Marian reform not long ago, I had a Legion of 4k on Epirus Lands, and they came with more than 20k armie stack , So I had to push all my best Legion from North Celtic land and from Syracuse. I Hold them on Epirus land and somehow managed to won some naval battles so I launch a surprise attack on Sparta Capital, and was the maximum that I could handle, because the North Celtic Land were unprotected and I couldn't let Carthagian declared war on me now.

They destroyed many of my strategies on seas, I almost could not move to their land.

My first attempt on Carthagian Territories was terrible, they still have a huge heavy armies on their lands.

@IsaacCAT again you can see the AI declaring war on me and doing some suspicious strategy.

After the war against Sparta and Macedon that I wrote above, I had to secure loyalty of some provinces at the same time that I developed others, mainly the northlands of Cisalpine Gauls. Many time between those wars against Carthaginian and Macedon I tried to build a strong navy, but they tore down my naval efforts, in some of these war I had to fight 2 side war one against Carthagian, Macedon or Gauls.

The civil war once more were to start upon Rome, but before that could become worse I bring the guy with low loyalty to the trial, made a investigation and conclude that he for some reason were meeting in secrecy with one of my Gauls allys 'Indiketia' , the civil so started, I secure all lands fast and solve the civil war fast as I could. I had some problems with my cities being destroyed and my development going all the way down reducing my incomes. I pardon them and restart a fast development in many of the destroyed cities. So I could restore my incomes.

After that I keeping secure some alliance on Iberian region, so Carthage would think twice before declare war on me. They were moving so fast there. Them after more than 20 years or more I decided finished the Cisalpine Gauls and to do that I moved my best legion far north to conquer just one territory from a Gauls nation, after that I finished the Gauls Mission and suddenly Macedon and Thrace at the same time declared war on me. So I move a fast 15k cohort from Syracuse to Epirus land to help another Cohort of 5k and contract a 17k merc to help them fast.

Rome2 front of war.png

In a fast attack they bought down all Southland of Epirus near Macedon and the Thracian devoured my land on Sparta. I had build a strong nave so I could secure the travel of my armies and won 3 Naval battles against them and I thought that I would easily win. Yet I was still moving my best legion from Celtic Land to Epirus territories. After that the bloodbath beguns.

When my armies arriveds I could restore my lost regions on south of Epirus and tried to hold them on the north and launch I strike on Thracian but all my armies fell down to armies and traps launched by Thracians, so Macedon keept striking my armies on South and soon the Thracian arrived on South of Epirus. Their together destroyed my naval forces preventing more armies to enter in the battlefield, and soon I thought that I would lost the war. To conclude that I could not move more armies to Epirus land the Thracian Launched a attack on my Northland of Celtic using Navies to transport a 30K army divided in 2 Cohort of Skirmishes and Heavy Infantry and Macedon kept securing that I wouldn't pass more armies to supply the battlefield so I just have to rely on recovery the armies, but with a high good manoveurs I could pass my 20k armie to the Epirus land and kept my navie on the ports running away from Thracian and Macedon. Soon Sparta Civil War brokes and Macedon Civil war Broke too, Sparta didn't come in this war.
Rome 3 front of war.png

After my 20k armies arrived I could secure the South land of epirus and hold some vital forts of Macedon and stopped the Thracian attack from there. Them I tried to push near north of Epirus to divide the Thracian and Macedon Force and them my armie of 30K fell on a Ambush of 50k+ of Thracian armie and thing got much worse than I thought and the bloodbath was became very severie now. That ambush broke down my armie, I lost my generals and the eagle, one of my general had to run to save his life... and all armies got the negative effects of that battle, so with a 40k armie from Thracian and 30k armie from Macedon on Epirus lands must of the thing were lost. But a surprise were waiting from Thracian on Northlands of Gauls. After they divided their armie to conquer fast territories I moved a unknow armie that secure my northlands and tore down their 30k armie like a Thunder and with some negotiations with the barbarian i could pass their territory and started attacking the north lands of Thracian with wrath! So the AI got divided now.

The battle far from ends the Thracian stopped me many times near the Territories of Eratyra with many ambushs using fog of war.
And on the image below you can see the 17k armie with Wrath on the north lands of Thrace and their allies on the battle.

If you think why Carthagian didn't declare war? Maybe they know that I have connections on their land heheh .

@IsaacCAT those battle wars were good and exciting and the game is in a good quality now, but I didn't play with other minor nation, I think the technology/invention tree fits exactly for major/minor civilized Nation, maybe a different Technology/invention tree should be built to tribes.

Very nice, I see that you had a lot of fun.

Probably you are not playing most efficiently and that puts you in the brink of loosing it all more times than necessary. But that is the joie de vivre!

If you ran out of inspiration look for the game achievements, I hope they add more and more complex.

I know that, I looked for Achieves with Rome against Greek and Thrace and didn't found anything.

And Yeah I'm having fun, it's not every time that I can play, and my games during at least more than one year.
I could play more efficiently yeah, but I was watching the AI Behavior on this new Patch, learning new things and I already play with Minor Nations on 1.3 and 1.4 defying rome and Egypt, but were hard with many bugs on naval. Plus the Iron Mode brings this sense of your mistake can cost a entire war. I let the flux of war running I could contract more Merc or Increased my armie number, but I want to see watch the AI are capable of as you said that is Joie de Vivre!

yeah, what is all about this Babylonian achievement?
As far as I know it's one of the more difficult nations to form. Only possible start is as Tylos afaik.
And if you were to add some babylonian requirement - let's say have at least one pop from each culture group currently existing in your realm. Build that Tower!
