I was going to post the same problem...

However...looking at the post mentioned in the Victoria forum, on my end it is definitely not a hardware issue. I have an Athlon 64 3000 with 1gb of RAM. I understand some slowdown is inevitable, but the game is stuck at an unplayable crawl by late 1943. 1936-1939 act more or less as they should, but it's downhill from there. I've tried closing down all background apps, and I have ample disk space for the swap file.

Anyone else experience something similar?

For starters, please to hijack someone else's thread with your problem, especially when that problem looks (even slightly) different than the thread starter's problem. It makes it extremely difficult for staff to track the progress of each issue.

Now, to your issue. At what game speed setting have you set your game? If it's anything above normal, then a very noticable slow down during the peak of the war is unavoidable. There are a lot of units in the game then that are engaged in one way or another, all needing AI attention. That takes CPU cycles.

If you run at normal or below, and still notice significant slowdown, we need to analyze your system setup.
