1 Jan 1700
I rushed through the streets of Copenhagen in the early dawn the sun had not even come above the horizon. The only people I meet were a few merchants setting up their shops and some fishermen.
Not that it came as a surprise fore me that we had declared war upon Sweden but I still think we should have waited a year more or two.
I came into the war cabinet’s chambers King Frederik IV was looking on a big map showing the Nordic region, to the left of him stood Admiral Christian Sehested. Frederik looked up when I came into the room and smiled me and said “good morning my dear general Nielsen” I could not help asking him what good there was to it? But he just grinned. Could you pleas inform the Admiral and me what our current military strength is at? Me “Phw military strength? Well ill tell you Jylland we have 7k/1K/0 man under the lt.general Christian Reventlow, and in and here at Sjælland, we have7k/1K/0 under General Christian Gyldenlöwe, and in the Østlandet we have Brigadier Holstein with only 1k/500/0, and by the way I suggest we promote him quickly, because his is the best commander we have, and then there is the fleet of course, under you Admiral at 8/0/4.” “And the Swedes?” Frederik asked, “I have no idea but properly they have twice as many soldiers who are better equipped and then there is of course the fact that they have cannons and we have none and no money to bye some for!” Frederik looked upon me and said” have you no faith in the chance of regaining Skaane?
Ha! I wonder what you think of your king and fellow generals!” “No no it’s not the faith in our generals and our soldiers guts I doubt” I sat down in a large chair “but I don’t helps much to have guts if they are ripped out by a cannon ball” Frederik nodded you right we better start colleting money or borrow them.

The meeting went on the entire day and it was decided that instead of sending the army in jylland to Copenhagen. We would send the army in Copenhagen to jylland to help defending our southern border from those traitors in Holstein.

1 Feb 1700
A Swedish fleet anchors out side Copenhagen it consist of 10 ships under some fellow named Wachtmeister. (The king is furious)

3 Feb
The king orders Christian Sehested, to drive the enemy away.

Thomas Jaager stood on the deck of Norske löve (Norwegian lion), he was a line lieutenant and was in charge of the battery, on the top deck’s left side, when he looked to his right he could see the back of the ship in front of them, where floritille admiral Christensen were in charge. On his ship it made him proud, when he thought of it, the Admiral himself were in charge, he could actually see him, when he looked the left coming towards him, shouting orders in every direction. Just a little further out in the Oersund, the Swedish fleet lay waiting. He looked down the line of cannons, he had he Commanded, they were all ready to fire and spread death, but now they looked so peace full here in this cold, but sunny day. One hour later, it was all a big mess, he looked down his line and saw that he had lost 3 of the 10 cannons he commanded, there was blood on the deck, and some small fires had erupted, but his cannons still continued to give fire, he looked across the water on the Swedish ship facing them, how long would they continue the fight, they were badly beaten up, he could see that it would only be a matter of minutes, before the masan mast would brake. Why didn’t they surrender their colours? He could see that they were making moves to fire another broad side, and he took cover behind a cannon. He looked up and saw Christian Sehested walking calmly down the deck. And in the same second the Swedish ship fired the broad side, He disappeared in a storm of wood, fire and smoke. Thomas ran toward the place, where he saw the admiral disappear in the blast. A few meters away, he found him covered in blood. The general saw at him and said, “tell Christensen, that he is in command” and then he died. Thomas ran down the deck, to the signalman and ordered him to send the Admirals orders, and then rushed on, to find the Captain.

The battle turned out to be at total disaster for the Swedish navy, witch only managed to get away, with 2 transport ships. The Danish is at fleet 7/0/4

I guess Charles XII won't be slipping across the Sound and into Copenhagen after all. But don't forget about his dispicable cousin the Duke of Holstein Gottorp. Very nice work so far. Looking forward to more. Any news from your Russian and Polish allies?

my Gloryus allies

well they are fighting a blody war aginst the sweeds in the baltic but they seem to go around in cirkels not gettting anywhere :( and yes the Gottorp indeed had some unplesant suprises in his back hand but more about in the next update which i think would bee around soon

Prelude to Disaster.

1700. 6. march
Today I decided together with the king to borrow 400.000 Rigsdaler from the Dutch trade company.
Fore this enormous sum we star recruiting 5K/2k/20 in Jylland. Finally we are going to get some much-needed cannons.

14 march
Our navy lands in Copenhagen where Christian Selested gets a hero’s burial.

1 Apr 1000
Infantrymen are joining Holsteins force in Østlandet.

26 Jun
This must no be truth it cannot be true I reach the Western gate of Copenhagen.
Oh dear god how can this happen I have just spoken with General Gyldenlöve and he informs me that our army in Denmark now consist of 1387 infantrymen. He tells.
“It was the morning of the “” 22nd Jun we were camped outside Aarhus with the army waiting fore the recruitment to be finished up in the Aalbor area early in the morning our picket line reported an army from Holstein moving towards us the reported that we were superior in numbers is I arranged the army in a attack formation. At 12.30 the holsteinians were put in battle formation right in front of us an in deed it would be a easy victory the only had 8000 infantry and about a 1000 cavalry so I ordered the advance over the open field with most of the army then I became aware of a large cavalry force to the left of our flank at first I thought that it was the reinforcements from Aalbor but then I realized that it was a massive attack of 7000 holsteinian Dragoons. My line were simply unable to turn around to face this new threat and therefore the swept the battlefield clear of my men.

This is indeed a severe blow to our forces. But in this very moment our biggest concern is how to evacuate the new force that is being recruited in Aalborg with out losing that force to.

28 Jun
The recruits fight their way thug the holsteinian liens all the way to the sea where our navy picks them up. It is a little comfort that the new “army” if one can call it so make the trip almost without a scratch.

1 Oct
Holstein lands in Copenhagen with his entire army, and he is put in charge of the whole mess, while the other generals, is being assigned to defend the capital, each general command 150 men.

21 Oct
We borrow another 200 Rigsdaler to bye 1K/3/0 in Copenhagen.

Oct 26
Swedish forces join the siege of Aalborg (2k)

>>The army that escapede just fleed to Sjælland witout a fight<<

I had similar experiences with Holstein. They pack a nasty punch. Teach them the value of sea power!

IN ICE AND SNOW

26 Oct
Our army under the command of Brigadier Holstein (9868/2413/20) set’s of towards Aalborg

2 Dec 1700
Brigadier Holstein saw across the battlefield the combined Swedish/Holsteinian army was forming a defensive position around a hill the Swedish blue and yellow uniforms stood in contrast to the white snow and the holsteinian green was like a provocation.
He decided to set his troops in an offensive formation his rather small cavalry at 2413 man at the right and the main bulge of the army in the middle and a the Norwegian troops to the left the troops who came from Aalborg which they had left only a month ago he put in front of the main body.
His cannons witch he had positioned behind his main force pounded at the enemy’s positions the whole morning. Around noon he ordered the advance.
Jacob Strid was in the front column. He served in the 1.Aalborg Foot regiment. When the order to advance was given he started moving while he cursed all generals ”why the hell can’t they fight in the summer time and sleep like the bears in the winter” they approached the enemy he could see that he would fight against the Swedes. He overheard a conversation behind him “I was born right over there where the Holsteininans have their head quarters” “oh well we better going to get it back fore you then ay?” “Yup they better not mess with us”. Jacob shook his head his father had fought in the last war and he had told him that Swedes were a very stubborn enemy. He turned his attention towards the Swedes who had come awfully near. He saw to his horror that they Swedes already had lifted their rifles and aimed at them. Then the order came to stop the advance and make ready! He heard the Swedish commander give the order to fire and he closed his eyes and waited he was certain that he would be hit by the first volley, he heard the noise from the enemy’s rifles and at the same time it was like a thousand angry bees flew right past his ear. He heard the scream of the wounded lying all around him. His nerves were just about to brake and he was ready to run away when he heard the sound of a drum. He straighten his back and thought no my father fought them so ill will fight them. He throw the rifle to his shoulder when the order was given and fired with the rest of his company he loaded his rifle with a panic speed and was ready the same time the Swedes fired their second volley he followed the brutal scream of his officers make ready aim fire! He was just about to reload his rifle when he heard the order to charge with blank steel. He ran up hill in the snow as fast as he could while the Swedes loaded their rifles as fast as they could. He trusted his bayonet thug a Swede witch was loading his rifle. He looked at Jacob with a surprised look on his face he looked like we were a lot younger then Jacob maybe 16-17. Jacob pulled his rifle to him and ran past the young boy and started fighting with a Swedish officer the officer’s sword as much more fit for this type of combat than Jacobs rifle. The Swedish officer attacked furious and forced Jacob back and when he fell he know that his was it he rolled around trying to fend the officer away but to his surprise he saw the officer running away together with his company and in the same second he found out why past him came the Danish cavalry chasing the enemy. Jacob came to his feet and followed his comrades to the slaughter of the unorganised enemy.
From he hill side Holstein saw that his troops forced the enemy over the hill and into the woods where the Danish superiority in infantry would come in handy.
The battle continued out into the night and all that was left of the enemy was 98 Swedes and 438 Holsteinians out of their army at 3803/7161/0.

The country rejoiced after the victory and every church bell in Copenhagen rang the entire day when the news of victory arrived. And I went to see the king.

Feb 6 1701
We borrow another 200.000 Rigsdaler and we recruit 7000/0/10 in Aahus.
And build 2 troop transports in Copenhagen. The preparation for the war in Sweden has begun.

Another loan! Did someone say this scenario wasn't too tough for Denmark? Good to see the Swedes getting the drubbing they deserve!

I vote for Holstein. But you must have had a plan at the start of the war no? Are the Poles an Russians still fighting the Swedes? Because I'd hope that the Swedes will now focus their builds in the East, though I suppose the problem is that they just love to beseige Oslo.

well

I thought of invading hoæstein but they can only support a very littel sige force an thety have a large fortress and i don´t have the mony or manpover to storm the fort so i try to win back skaane

heeeem

Well my notes from Feb 6 1701 to Oct 30 has disappeared but the only thing that happened in that time was that I prepared fore the invasion of Sweden and then in the summer of 1702 my army landed in skaane with 1700/5147/28 and a other army of 7000/1200/0 in on its Ruth towards jylland.

Oct 30 1702
Today we acquired a monopoly in Holland worth 77000 Rigsdaler.

Feb 24 1703 Denmark 7/0/6 vs. a Swedish fleet at 3/0/0 witch is totally annihilated.

March 9 1703.
The bells of freedom s ringing all over skaane as the last Swedish fort falls to our hero Holstein.
The same day Holstein splits his army in three and sends them towards Stockholm one at the time to avoid starvation in Smålande. The king follows the army and so do I this is something I wouldn’t miss fore the world.

1 April
There is fought a brutal battle near Viborg in Jylland against a holsteininan army at 8233/9285/0 vs. the Danish army at 14094/2033/10 (half of the force had just been build so the army quickly broke)
The sad remains of 8175/936/8 stumbles towards the capital.

13 may 3K from Norway lands in København.

The same day there is fought a battle out side the capitol against the Gottrop army the half of the city is standing on the city wall watching the battle witch rage from 8 in the morning till 4 in the after noon where the Danish army emerge victorious. Pew the Norwegian reinforcement came just in time to avoid a catastrophe. This as truly been a great year fore Denmark.

a small update

The siege of Stockholm

I stood beside the king on a little hill out side Stockholm. So will it be today my king? The king remained silent fore a moment while he looked at the city in the distance ”yes indeed but I have my doubt in the wise of this the city looks like it is in a terrible condition” I nodded in silent approval. We could see the soldiers gathering in the trenches near the eastern end of the town the cannons fired fanatically at the area. After an hour waiting the attack were about to commence but in the same second the city gates were opened and a delegation came out with a banner of truth. The king looked at me “see what did I say it was in a terrible condition, I think you should go down with the dear general and meet them” I got hold of a horse and found general Holstein near the eastern point of the city I got hold of him and told him to holt the attack and come with me.

We road up the main street in Stockholm towards the Rigsdag the look at the Swedes faces told me that if the would ever get the chance at meting us at the battle field again the battle would be a battle of pure hate no prisoners taken no pardon given.

As we road into Lund the church bells rang and the people cheered and the girls kissed the soldiers and I kind of envied the common soldier of what the night might bring them of pleasant surprises, this would be a good place to a Danish Jens.
My thoughts went back to the bartering table the Swedes had been a poor lucking bunch the hero king’s taxes had made even the nobles to tightening the belt a notch. And they weren’t of course not happy at all by the demand of Skaane and what else the might have left in the treasury. Luckily it was past the New Year and the taxes had been colleted so we could lay our hands on 98.000 Rigsdaler.
Oh yes the future was looking bright fore the kingdom god himself had given their flag. I wondered maybe the power of Lyndaniese had been brought to live once again?

I'm bumping this to see if I can convince HITO to finish it. Or does beating Sweden in the Northern war coutn as the end? Nice work by the way.
