Gulf War Battlescenario

*Cough*
*Turns on microphone*

I have decided to create a Gulf War Battle Scenario instead of waiting for the Cold War mod. It will have 4 playable countries (Allies (UN), Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait) and will span the following provinces:

Saudi-Arabia:
All provinces owned in vanilla HoI2, plus Jawf, minus Kuwait City

Iraq: All provinces owned in Vanilla Hoi2

Kuwait: Kuweit City

Allies: Doha and Dubai (Air missions from the US and Europe will be ignored)

Sea: Gulf of Oman, Persian Gulf

I have part of the Allied OOB's complete.

Diplomatic System:

No usage of Diplomacy. Saudi, Allies and Kuwait will be Allied at the beginning of the game

Production:

None

Tech:

None

OOB’s:

Allies:

Allies:

XVIII Airborne Corps (Jawf)
82nd Airborne Division (Airborne ’45)
101st Airborne Division (Airborne ‘45)
24th Infantry Division (Mechanized) (Armored Cavalry ‘44)
197th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) (Armored Cavalry ‘44)
3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment (Armored Cavalry ‘44)
6e Brigade Legere Blindee (Armored Cavalry ‘44)

Hey this is good news. I was gonna start up work on my own scenario based on this in the future but I reckon I dont need to now. Is the map done yet? If not I'd be happy to make it according to what you wrote in your first post there, since it won't take long and my own scenario is going at slow progress (kinda hard getting OOB's from 1947).

Also I suggest you contact Rey to make the scenario selection graphic as he has done such a good job on all the ones I've needed. Unless of course you plan on making it yourself.

Basically, i only have some of the text work completed as of yet. I might do events later today. I need a map made, yes.

So is this what you were thinking of? Now one thing I need to know is when you want the scenario to start? Do you want it in August 1990 when Iraq invaded or when the UN invaded in January '91?

right then, PM your email and I'll send you the files. I put them in a mod-dir format because I had to change some things. I had to add in Kuwait since they doint have a tag in vanilla HoI2. They are tag U00 and I gave them a flag that came with Victoria (problem is it will look differnt from the HoI2 flags but you can always ask someone to make one in a HoI2 format). I also included a modern Iraq flag that came with the set. You may want to ask someone to make a UN flag to relace the default "allies" flag that comes with the tag. I can go ahead and ask around for those if you'd like.

well besides events, OOB's and ministers/leaders what else would you need to change? I'm guessing you mean things like graphics and the tech tree. To make it easy on yourself I would just use the default HoI2 techs. It's not a big deal to use 1945 infantry for the units and it's kinda foolish to make a new tech tree for this scenario. Assuming you're going to let the Cold war mod team use this when you finish, then I wouldn't worry about things like tech at this point. Focus on getting minister and leader lists for now along with OOB's.

OK, i think that's what i'll use then.

Yee-hah, I'm going to love this mod. I can't wait to give George Bush a right royal drubbing (even if he is George Bush Snr, and even if I'm going to be roleplaying Saddam Hussein).

But really, aren't the provinces too large for this sort of a project?? I mean all the UN forces have to do is to take the Kuwaiti and that desert (you know, the one adjacent to the Basrah and Kuwaiti provinces) province to have "historically" won the Gulf War.

Also wouldn't the scenario be a bore to play? The Iraqi side (bad equipment, bad leaders, really bad doctrines [i.e. morale, organisation]) after all would be totally outmatched by the Coalition. However, Hussein does have a shot at winning the battlescenario if he takes out Saudi Arabia along with Kuwait right off the bat...

Anyways, good luck to you!!!!!!!

Bush, prepare to get owned! Hussein, old buddy, hop on and let's ride off into the Arabian Nights.

actually I was thinking of doing a kind of "alternate history" option for the scenario, if kenneth will let me. If you play as the US an event will happen where you can choose a historical campaign or make a super powered Iraq. At the beginning of the scenario you would have a few months to conquer the nation before Iraq gets a few "weapons of mass destruction" and strategic bombers. They will also get some kind of "super soldiers" with very high tech. The UN will then have to find a way to conquer Iraq with their new enchancements. Again this would only be an option to add a bit of interest to the scenario since the UN will probably dominate.

No kidding.

So its like halfway into the game, Hussein gets a popup announcing "O Mighty and Beneficient Leader, our archaeologists in Tikrit have discovered a portal -or Stargate as they put it- to an advanced alien culture. These aliens are willing to share their secrets of "deathlaser beam rods", and will transform your current army of cowardly footsoldiers into elite "Jaffas." They will do this only if you let them implant their children into the bellies of your soldiers.

Option A: Yes, form the Jaffa divisions!
Option B: No deals with the Gou'alds!"

Seriously though, I think there is one way to realistically make this battlescenario interesting. During the Gulf War Saddam tried to gain Arab support by SCUDing Israel into declaring war on him. This would have forced the UN's Arab contingent to withdraw from the war (and more importantly the Coalition would lose their basing rights in Saudi Arabia), since it would be unthinkable for Arabs to fight alongside their avowed enemy, Israel.Of course, Hussein's gambit failed since Israel turned the other cheek.

But what if an event allowed Israel to declare war on Iraq in response to being SCUDed?? The Arab nations would all detach themselves from the Coalition alliance (and maybe join the Iraqi alliance???). This would mean that the Coalition would have to either perform a precarious amphib. assault on Kuwait or (if the Arabs joined Iraq) fight off the whole Arab world and conquer Iraq, all while protecting Israel from being annexed by its hostile neighbours.

What'dya think?

Of course this would involve expanding the map to incorporate Israel, Egypt, Syria and Jordan (at least).
