CHAPTER ONE
ACT I

In 1860, the states of North America- under the leadership of James Buchanan had began to truly fracture and fold. When Republican Abraham Lincoln of Illinois was elected in November, South Carolina seceded. Soon, Virginia to the Indian Territories, including Arkansas, down to Texas and over again to Florida were all part of a secessionist government. They titled themselves “The Confederate States of America”, because they were a Confederacy of men. They elected Mississippi US Senator Jefferson Davis and set out to create a nation for themselves, based upon what they called “The constitutional right to secede”. Laying beneath the surface was the bloody and brutal “peculiar institution” of slavery. This is the story of the CSA, from the rise of that nation.

President Davis was known to be a staunch supporter of his country, but it surprised no one when he said “We may be doomed, gentlemen” at a cabinet meeting, following Grant moving troops through Roanoke. However, when the Union intervened in a British-Confederate affair and refused to back down, the UK took it as an insult and declared for the CSA
King Cotton.jpg

President Davis discreetly announced his plan to halt shipments of Cotton to the rest of the world until recognition of this new American government came. Cotton was a valued import, and this could take a heavy toll on Europe, as the CSA was the main provider.
UK-CS Alliance.jpg

Under Confederate ambassadors Slidell and Mason, a treaty was signed with the United Kingdom of Great Britain, uniting the Kingdom with the Confederacy in an alliance against the Yankees.
Stauton.jpg

One of the biggest battles of the war, the Battle of Staunton Virginia. The Yankee army, led by Ulysses S. Grant against Robert E. Lee, a southern general. Lee lost over 26 thousand. Grant lost nearly 40.
Massacre of Fredericksburg.jpg

After a year and a half of fighting, General Lee was dead, a victim of Camp Fever in Greenville. His aide-de-camp and next in command, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson took command of the Army. Even with British help, things looked grim, so when Jackson was able to sneak upon almost 12,000 Union men at Fredericksburg, he killed everyone. He became known as a cold, calculating man.
CS-US Peace.jpg

The Confederates sign a treaty of Status Quo Antebellum, excepting the secession of the fully controlled 11 rebel states. A grand day for a new republic!

((Now the CSA is free. I'm using the Pop Demand Mod and Freedom & Chains mod. Let's see how this goes. Will play as I post.))

((I'm working on Act II of Chapter I right now and should upload it today, soon. It will cover from the peace to the first election, which is held in 1865, even though the Confederate constitution called for a 6 year president term. I'll be doing one 4 year terms, to coincide with the game. Also, I've got some conquesting in Africa done, so that will be included. I'll be playing this a good deal, taking pictures. I want to make updates on a regular basis.))

Act II

Great Power Status.jpg

The CSA attains Great Power Status
With his republic intact, and peace attained, Jefferson Davis and his cabinet went about the process of evening out the Confederate budget, decreasing taxes and increasing tariffs on goods in order to pay for public funding. This had been one of the reasons the states seceded, but it seemed more able to be dealt with and accepted when it was self imposed.
Jeff Davis Spending.jpg

Yet still, Jeff Davis was looking towards expansion. Across the sea, in Africa, the Moroccan government was falling apart, it’s armies in shambles. It seemed like an easy target. On the night of March 6th, 1865, the President ordered a squadron of ships carrying over 30k Confederate veterans to the shores of North-West Africa. They arrived in a week. The President declared war April 1st, and by May 6th, the Moroccans were defeated, over 70 percent of it’s landmass ceded to the CSA.

In July, the elections began. Though there had been much talk about Fitzhugh Lee, nephew of General Robert E. Lee succeeded Davis, things would be tight and contested. Lee ran on the Democrat ticket. Against him were two others, General Wade Hampton and General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Hampton ran as a Whig and Forrest ran on the newly founded Confederate Patriot Party.

Fitzhugh Lee
Not much was known about Fitzhugh Lee, besides the fact that he was closely related to the deceased general and southern hero. He campaigned on a promise of increased security and protection.
Wade Hampton.jpg

General Wade Hampton III
Wade Hampton III was a general, a veteran of the War of Secession as a cavalry general. Hampton promised prosperity, and the same economic plan that President Davis had instituted. He was well known for several battles inside of Tennessee during the war.
Nathan BF.jpg

General Nathan Bedford Forrest
Nathan Bedford Forrest, serving General, Confederate Cavalry was also a veteran of the war, but had risen from the rank of Private to General, and had demonstrated his tactical brilliance with a makeshift pincer attack. He had no formal military schooling. He promised jingoism, expansion, and of course prosperity.
Whig Victory.jpg

The results of the election
The Elections began in July and the results came in on January 3rd. Wade Hampton III was to be President. The runner-up, Nathan Bedford Forrest would be his vice president. At his inauguration speech, President Hampton promised “Prosperity, egalitarianism and fraternity for all god-fearing whitemen. We shall be a great nation, based upon proper Christian values. All throughout the world shall continue to know us for this. God bless you, and God Save the Southern Confederacy.”
But in Europe, a crisis over colonies was brewing.

((Note: Lee DID die in the middle of the war and Jackson took over the Army of Northern Virginia. I have the pic showing Lee leading it. I consider than an accidental anachronism, hopefully bearable.))

((Fair warning: If the Confederate States stay any sort of Democracy at all, I want to incorporate the Kingfish, Huey Long into the very late game politics. I like him as a character. That is all.))

((alright. I've got to calculate them real quick like. After that, I'll put the final part of Chapter I in, Act III. I don't have an electoral map, but let me do some calculations. One moment.))

((I'm going to get to work on that last part of Chapter I. Then after I've uploaded it, I'll see where it goes from here. I'm playing the whole thing out as I have the time to, then writing and uploading. Sometimes I might wait to upload a bit. Thanks for reading!))

CHAPTER ONE
ACT III
Final Act

Crisis.jpg

Below is the Crisis of North Island, where the British and the French went to war over New Zealand. The French were backed by Russia, Britain was backed by the CSA and Italy. The result was Status Quo Antebellum, shown below.

Result of Crisis.jpg

The Presidency of Wade Hampton III was rife with war and death and began with the great Crises of 1868. France declared their intent to take North Island in New Zealand and Britain wanted the same. France, backed by the Tsardom of Russia declared war for it on Britain, backed by the CSA and Italy. While this was disastrous for Italy and ended in Status Quo Antebellum, the most important events of his Presidency was the war of Federal-Confederate Honour. When the south looked weak, the north declared a war, supposedly to cut the CSA down to size.

Educational reforms.jpg
President Hampton’s tenure saw many educational and voting reforms to the government, and the states of Kentucky and New Mexico added to the CSA, whom both voted to be added as Free States.

Even though Britain was in the middle of war, she honoured her alliance, as did Brazil. Because of this, the Confederates were able to fight off the Federals. They won over 90 percent of battles. Their victories had huge margins, sometimes 10 deaths of the enemy for 1 of them. The victories of the enemy were Pyhrric.

Below are several battles. One of them, the battle of Santa Fe became known as a “Miracle” because of the incredibly low rate of Confederate loss compared to Federal losses. The slaughter of Carbondale, as another would be known, was a Confederate success, near the end of the war, at nearly 40,000 Confederate alone lost. There are other pictures as well, photographs taken by Matthew Perry & Co

The war was won in the middle of the next election, gaining Kentucky and New Mexico as states. They voted to be non-slave states. They didn’t get to vote in the 1870 election. In the election, Nathan Bedford Forrest ran as the whig candidate, successor to Hampton. He ran against Millard Grey, a socialist. The only state Grey took was Oklahoma, and Forrest was sworn in on March 3rd, 1870. He promised a new wave of prosperity and to rebuild the fractured military in preparation for “Defense against the damnyankee invaders.” It truly was a new era for the CSA.

After Notes, History:

The Ideology of Communism came into being during President Hampton’s tenure, and a rather loud but small group “The Confederate Communists” formed in Richmond, dedicated to spreading the ideals. Meanwhile, the socialists got almost 10 percent of the vote in the national polls.

During the war of American Honour, a train coming in from Nashville crashed in the Appalachians, killing everyone and losing everything on board.

((Hey Y'all, just an update. I've played to 1880. I'm in the middle of that election. When it ends, after I wrap up one thing, I'm gonna take a break for most of today, then I'll work on what I've got and write up the start of the second Chapter))

This is so tragic.
