I just ordered the game from Paradox and even though I am not sure of how long it will take for me to get my copy (I live in Austin, Texas) I wanted to throw this MP idea out there.

The Men who would be Emperor:

Players: 3+

Objective: To claim the crown of the Byzantine Emperor and rule Christendom as Emperor of the Romans!

Rules:

1. Each player plays as the ruling family for one principality inside the Empire trying to eliminate their rivals and claim the Empire for their dynasty by any means inside the rules. The player to have held the title the longest by 1453 wins (or once it is impossible for them to lose, as in they have held the throne for more than half of the years in the game)

2. You cannot claim any title which will remove your dynasty's lands from the Empire (so you can rule Egypt for the Empire but cannot claim the title King of Egypt since that would make you sovereign).

3. You must be either a vassal of the Empire or the Emperor himself for the duration of the game.

4. Everybody loses if the following occurs:
A. By 1453 Byzantium is not the capitol of the Byzantine Empire.
B. A Muslim country conquers Byzantium at any time during the game.
C. By 1453 a non-Orthodox non-Player-Controlled Christian is Emperor.
D. Naturally if the Empire does not exist at all by 1453.

Optional rules I am thinking of:

5. As a Byzantine Vassal you gain a certain number of bonus years to your total if you achieve the following (These only apply if they are taken from a power outside of Byzantium and when they are lost to the Empire you lose your bonus):
A. Add Jerusalem to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal. (+10)
B. Add Alexandria to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal. (+10)
C. Add Rome to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal. (+10)
D. Add Kiev to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (+3)
E. Add Baghdad (Somehow...) to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (+20)
F. Add all of Sicily to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (+3)
G. Add Carthage (Tunis) to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (+3)
H. Add all of of Italy south of the Papal States to your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (does not apply to territory in southern Italy already part of the Empire) (+3)
I. If another Dyansty loses Antioch and you regain it for your Principality or gain it as an Orthodox Christian Vassal (+5)

6. One player starts as Emperor and wins if he can somehow hold on to the throne until 1453, if his family is removed from power his previous years on the throne dont count but he can still win the usual way. This would prevent the Empire from collapsing into independent states as it sometimes does when the AI is in charge.

7. Each player is instead rated by how much prestige and piety he wins during his time as Emperor instead of his sheer longevity.

What do you think?

sounds like a cool idea :)

as soon as i am done my thesis, I am definitely up for this sort of thing
