This thread is for any modders out there that are trying to learn how to use the new HOI2 editor that comes with Doomsday. I am not a Paradox employee just someone that likes to MOD and I thought we could all help each other out learning how to use the new editor. The new editor is great but it does not do everything. I am already having problems trying to implement a mod into Doomsday using the new editor, and I don't quite understand what is going on. Most of the editor is self explanatory but there are some pretty in depth issues with it and with anybody who knows how to mod. With that said I will kick it off with a couple of questions.

1: I understand how to load a EUG file for the scenario section, but I am having problems selecting a country on the left hand side. Everytime I go to select a country after loading a scenario EUG file, the editor crashes. What requirements does the editor look for in any files within the game that enable you to be able to select one of those countries on the left? I've tried it in vanilla Doomsday and it works fine. I have tried to get any and all parameters to coincide with the new Doomsday code but no luck still.

One thing I have learned is that if you load a scenario EUG file and then change something and then click the save button, the editor will format all of your scenario country INC files into a certain format that the editor uses. So be careful if you don't want to lose any work. I found this out the hard way.

Please post more questions MODDERS!!!!

How do I chose the graphics when creating a new unit?

I was successfully able to create a "pocket battleship" (used the 9th CA spot)
and created a tech to link to it.

However the unit symbol is a large X.

Thanks

I found the answer to the first question I asked. The problem turned out to be a stupid hardcoded thing that is in the aircraft techtree. I am pretty sure it is hardcoded. But I found a way to work around it and I got the game running finally.

The problem with the aircraft techtree is that there is a hardcode saying that there must exist a tech with the id of: (15500). This is the tech for the vanilla aircraft techtree which gives you 'Practical Jet Engine'. Apparently you have to have this tech id in the aircraft techtree somewhere or else the scenario won't load. Under this id the tech will automatically be deactivated as if it were a secret weapons tech. The way I got around it is by having the tech with the id present in my tree however, I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. Since the tech has to be in the game, I can either make some sort of use of it, or I can hide it, by putting it under another tech or maybe even off the screen somewhere.

This problem is more along the lines of learning by trial and error just how differently DOOMSDAY is hardcoded than 1.3b HOI 2. I hope this helps people and please ask questions so we can all learn.

I haven't gotten to assigning graphics for units yet but, my guess as of right now is to put the graphic u want to use in the models folder and then somehow use the editor to assign that graphic to the model, which I haven't gotten to yet. If you find out let us know, or if I find out I'll let everyone know. Thanks

Thanks dude. I have another hypothesis regarding whether you can select a country on the left hand side of the scenario editor window of the new Doomsday editor.

I got the game running as stated before but I still cannot choose a country on the left hand side of the scenario editor. I think it is because of the new units I have created in my units folder. Many of my new units often exceed the allowable 0-9 unit spots for each unit type. Therefore I think that the scenario editor cannot recognize any of my new units beyond 9 and therefore crashes whenever I try to select a country. This may be so because when you do select a country on the left you are able to create and edit the OOB's of every country.

This is my best guess. All this means is that I can't use the scenario editor to make OOB's for my mod. I'll have to keep doing them manually as before.

Maybe a stupid question but anyway, How do I change the provinces owned by a nation?
I try to change the provinces owned by Germany, but it wont work....
Help :)

You're kidding me. You've been working on your mod for over a year, haven't you?

Within a save (I imagine its different in the start files for a scenario, but comparable), search for "tag = eng" until you get down to a line just below "country =". Now scroll down. You will eventually see lines with text at the beginning explicitly stating which provinces are owned, controlled, and claimed by this country (the UK). These numbers correspond to the provinces of the same id #'s as you can find in the references section of the wiki.

Substitute the tag ENG from your opening search with the one appropriate for the country you are trying to mod. Eg. Germany is GER. Again, you can find these tags on the wiki.

Yeah I know how to MOD in Code but not how to MOD this is the Doomsday Editor :)

Time Limit

I am adjusting the time limit for the 1936 scenario. I changed the end date but when I start the scenario the window that gives the victory goals and the end date shows that the end year has not changed. The month shows the change but the year always stays the same. Anyone have a clue why?

Tried to make an new land doctrine for Germany and the game won't start. The lack of any info about the editor and Paradox not saying a word, makes me wonder if this editor is broke and beyond repair.

OK, I'm trying to create a new nation from Scratch, a fasicst UK, but when I choose one of the new TAGs in the Editon it wont save the new TAG

Help please :)

EDIT: What will happen if I mark a nation and choose remove? Will the nation be totally out of the game, hence not even liberateable?

Can somebody post new commands and triggers, please?

I would like to know what more can be done with DD than with vanilla.

Thanks in advance.

I think the only new commands are the ones that came out with the new Doomsday V1.1 patch. You can read the patch notes to find out the new commands. I don't know if Doomsday 1.0 introduced any new commands itself? Anybody know?!

Beginner's incompitence. Help please

Whenever I load up the editor and load a file (e.g 1936) (I would save a backup and change the name) I can't do a thing!!!! ( There is 99% possibility it due to my lack of understanding the editor)
So please can anyone provide help on how to use the editor, or send me a link to a FAQ teaching people ,step by step, how to use the editor?

That would be greatly appreciated.

If you would like to contact me, my email is - mikes_twang@hotmail.com
Information reguarding how to use the editior would be better sent to my email rather than a reply to this post since i would probably not be able to find it due to the amount of people using it. Also it would keep the confusion down. ( iam sometimes ( like this time) easily confused)

Mike-Thanks again.

Anyone knows how does the "parse" section works? Every tome that i try to load a file it says that it's impossible!

There is probably a simple answer to this question. When you make user defined countries, they are listed as U0 thru U50. How do you change their names so that when you play the game it says something other than user defined. And also, how do you make the flags for user defined nations. Any help you be appreciated.

editor missing

I just started playing HOI2DD again and notice that the provided editor is missing. I last downloaded the game from Zstorm in 2006 and maybe I didn't get it then, I don't remember. If there is anyone still monitoring this thread, do you know of a way I can get the editor again?

Thanks again.
