Is it possible to upgrade the church of Theotokos to the Parthenon because the requirements for upgrading the building are self-contradictory, and this results in a sort of deadlock where:

  • A Christian character sees the upgrade option but can’t take it because they need to be Hellenic.
  • A Hellenic character can’t use the building because it’s disabled due to not being Christian.

Anyone found a fix for this or do we have to wait for Paradox to fix it?

Hellenic Characters can upgrade it, to use it, it is the same Mechanic, the Devs used for the Hagia Sophia Special Building, after an Hellenic Character has upgraded it, the Christians can no longer use it, because it is not possible to downgrade Buildings.

Even a Building is disabled, you can still upgrade it.
Disabled only means the Effects of the Building are not enabled.

I can't upgrade the building cause the special building slot for Church of Theotokos is grayed out so I cannot click on it. It says building disabled because Hellenism is not a Christian faith.

Can confirm. No mods and same issue. There's a cheat type of workaround, either with console or by temporarily installing the advanced cheat menu mod:
1. Pause, use a cheat to convert to christianity (orthodoxy)
2. Select the special building
3. While keeping open the special building tab, use a cheat to convert to the hellenic faith
4. Start construction and you can safely unpause and close the tab.

You will lose the pilgrim trait if you have it, and I'm not sure if it breaks achievements for the current save, but it works.

Did it, worked. It looks beautiful. Thanks for the help.

Honestly IMO decisions like this should not be Upgrades.

see mechanically you can't downgrade and if hypothetically after converting it to a christian temple it is then converted back, can't do that. Notably this has popped up with the Hagia Sophia and the dome of the rock/third temple.

IMO a better way would be to handle it via decisions, which would swap out say Hellenic Parthenon with Christian one, and a decision for the Hellenists to do the reverse.
