I was kinda hoping there would be a feature of seeing the royal dynasty timelines in the game. It would be something that you can shoot for in the game as a goal, trying to get your lower noble family into the historical royal timeline of a Kingdom. For example, the Kingdom of England royal timeline below..

HOUSE OF LANCASTER
Henry IV 1367 1399–1413
Henry V 1387 1413–1422
Henry VI 1421 1422–1461
HOUSE OF YORK
Edward IV 1442 1461–1483
Edward V 1470 1483–1483
Richard III 1452 1483–1485
HOUSE OF TUDOR
Henry VII 1457 1485–1509
Henry VIII 1491 1509–1547
Edward VI 1537 1547–1553
Jane (Lady Jane Grey)6 1537 1553–1553
Mary I (“Bloody Mary”) 1516 1553–1558
Elizabeth I 1533 1558–1603
HOUSE OF STUART
James I7 1566 1603–1625
Charles I 1600 1625–1649

Since CK is a bit more turbulent in terms of who stays in power, I think it would be a nice feature to have. Rebellions, civil wars, marriages, war, and so forth will alter the timeline, for better or worse. Right next to where it shows the "House of XXXX" there can be a miniature shield icon representing your dynasty. Right next to the names can be a miniature picture of the ruler too. CK's play period does last a few hundred years, so there will be plenty to see on it.

For gameplay purposes, I would think it's only important to have the royal timelines only, and it wouldn't keep track of Count's or Duke's, only crowned King's and Emperor's. Also, aside from trying to get on the list is trying to keep your dynasty on it for as long as possible. You could theoretically play a single dynasty (you start as King) and keep it in power for the entire length of CK, although it might be a bit hard!

I know it's more for flair than anything, but I think it's a good type of flair. Also, it could give people some in-game goals to shoot for.

I like this. All these statistics should be in the game. I will also have the possibility to find the previous rulers of all the political entities of the games. Papacy, countys, duchys and so on.

I'd be surprised (and disappointed) if CK2 didn't encompass a great deal of V2's data. Everyone love statistics, particularly for their rulers and vassals.

I approve of this idea, but I'm saddened by the absence of the Readeption of 1470 : ]

The Papacy I can agree to in terms of the Papal listing of Popes, but Count's and Dukes? Do you think people would check those ones? Also, if implemented, I'm hoping for more of a simple graphical representation, such as the picture below. We could see the portraits next to the names, but the color coding would represent the dynasties in control, to make it feel more game-like, as well as show periods where Dynasties weren't in control and were controlled by temporary regents (if implemented also). The dynasty names would also be present, which are not shown on the picture, but for simplicity's sake, I think they should be shown on the game.

Tbh, i'm not sure how popular it would be? After all, your playing a dynasty, and are as such mostly gonna be interested in where your dynasty ruled. If it was listed/graphed as this, it would require you to look for your dynasty in the different countries...

(Might have gotten something about the suggestion wrong, am pretty damn tired, but it's just how i understand it..)

If your ruler was both King of England AND King of France, it would show up as the ruling dynasty controlling both of those on the individual kingdom timelines. If, at some point it broke apart your ruling dynasty would stop in the other Kingdom that your dynasty is no longer ruling, and the new ruling dynasty (AI controlled) would now show up there. So, yes in that degree it would show where your family has ruled before as well, but no longer be ruling at the current time that you are viewing the timeline for that particular royal timeline.

I kinda view it as prestigious being on a royal timeline, and something to have as a goal, such as being a little count somewhere and eventually working your way up to be the King, and thereby adding your dynasty to the list, and from there it's a how long can you keep your dynasty in power type of thing. Henry the VIII was really adament concerning having a son due to wanting to extend the Tudor dynasty, and not having it stop with him.

I would to see such a feature implemented as I'm always a sucker for such things in simulations - especially cherished ones like CK. :D

im expecting CKII will be like CK and all other paradox games, even the ones with historys
you keep a notebook and a pen beside the computer and keep track of the history yourself
the programmed in historys always mention the wrong things and leave out the most important

I can imagine that they will implement something from HTT, where you can look at the ledger and look at all the previous rulers and what happened in their reign.

I've played HttT, and I understand how it works. That's great and all, but I would be hoping for more of a timeline, even if it isn't graphical like in my first post. I wouldn't think that would be hard to code.

I would rather not have to resort to a pen and paper method of keeping track of dynasties, if it can be helped. Worst case scenario would just be like the text version I mentioned earlier.

I don't see a timeline as being that usefull in the game. I do hope this gets in there though: Say you have four sons I would like to see the Dynasty name of the last one change like the Capets and Burgoune (spelling?).

It's useful if you AAR. Dynasty timelines are something you see when you look back at who ran the kingdom in terms of families in history books and such. It shows how long a ruling dynasty lasts. In my eye's it would be an achievement to have my ruling dynasty stay in power for 200 years, and it would be one of my 'many' goals in CK2. Think of it as a royal 'King of the Hill' type of thing, how long can your family last on the top before it's removed?

Would I see this as a necessary mechanic in the game? Nope. Do I want it? Oh yes, I love history, I like reading about dynasties. :D

Game Timeline

This kinda fits in with the Dynasty Timeline suggestion. I would like a timeline much like EU3 has where it would say how a king did during his reign, and any important events he was in. Small feature, but I always liked it.

indeed that Royal Dynasty Timeline is what I was refering to in the original post. I think that and the EU3 style history reports are maybe not necesarry, but they would add so much to the game for those of us that love such features.

Hmm, I put my post in the wrong thread.....

EDIT: or maybe I didnt... looks like maybe it was merged.....oh well, this idea is good, and the one I posted earlier should come with it (timelines with events like EU3)
