Just load up as anyone in the 1187 scenario, and you can see the Sultan of Rum ruling from Lesbos, despite the surrounding areas being Greek.

Surely these islands weren't controlled by the Turks that early on?

Reason? Why would the capital of Rum be an island in the Aegean? Why would the sultan reside in a place that the Turks never conquered?

There are also similar situations, such as a single Turkish province surrounded by loads of Greek provinces. Just hover over Anatolia on the main screen and click through the bookmarks and you'll see what I mean. There are some fairly strange things going on there and I am not sure if some are unintentional.
