Dateline: 1936, a cabinet meeting in Berlin.

Gentlemen, this is indeed important enough to have dragged you away from the night's festivities. During the party this evening, I met some interesting people and came to some startling conclusions. Suffice to say that the state of our nation is about to take a left turn. We strike France this April.

Let me begin by introducing my new chief of staff. He is renowned for his generalship, and has led me to believe that we can indeed take on the rest of the world with little further preparation. Mr. Ghengis Khan brings to us what is called "Mongolian Horde Doctrine". By school of combat, we shall combine our total force into a single army group to strike a single, narrow front. We sweep anything out of our path.

With this revolution in military tactics, we will take the world by storm! With this situation, we will reorient the priority of our objectives.

First, we will launch an attack against western europe. Striking France, then Spain, we will gain the high ground of the continent: access to the Med and control of the English channel.

Taking out these potential English staging areas, we divide our force. We sweep the southern coast of the Med, exploiting our foothold in Ceuta. Province by province, we expel everyone else from there to Suez. Simultaneously, the army will sweep through every European state save Finland, Poland, and Romania. These will form a buffer between us and the Russians. I will discuss that problem in a moment.

Now, from there, we will decide whether to strike Russia or Britain based upon our expected speed of advance through to India. If we can end one war quickly and effectively before the next, so much the better.

In the meantime, action will be taken to prepare for the crusade against Bolshevism. I have created a new cabinet post, with an energetic bright young man to see this done. May I introduce my friend Werner Heisenberg, minister of Russian Affairs. He will work tirelessly to solve the Cossack question.

Does anyone have any questions?

As to the invasion of France, I have a masterstroke. We will strike the french swine in a way no one would ever suspect. Across the minefield, under the cover of daylight. The Maginot Line. As I expect the war to start on April Fool's day, the operation shall be known as Fool Gelb.

What would be most hilarious is if this works!

Ever since der bierhallputsch, Rudy had known the boss would reward him for his loyalty. But he hadn't felt so nervous since they'd been in the joint.

The boss gone and he'd left HIM to run the show.

Between the boss' notes (he'd been his secretary his he'd taken dictation for the book in prison) and the new army chief -the mongol- he had roughed out a table of organization for F-Day:

I Gothic Horde
General von dem Busse-Ibling commanding
9 Infantry divisions
Attached heavy weapons brigades

Oberkommandowelt
Field Marshall Blomberg
1 HQ division

Armeegruppe Saarbruecken:
Other korps, divisional commanders, in order of seniority:
Bader
Eberth
Haase
Barkenhausen
Hartman
Heineman
von Boetticher
von Manstein

Due to the boss' later orders from that crazy night, he could only give these commanders the troops currently active in the home territories: a total of 37 divisions. Not even the East Prussian garrison could be sent west for support.

don't forget, generals with the old-guard trait are the best ;)

The Lamps Go Out Again

"Airee?"
"Mmm..."
"I had a dream last night... a nightmare."
"Mmm?"

"My foresight into the nature of future warfare was finally recognized. I wrote a book and its lessons were taught to every new officer. When the word came for an attack, our leader promoted me to Feldmarschal and ordered me to lead our entire nation's armed forces."

"I had everything I'd ever dreamed of: respect, power, and purpose. But here's the scary part: I WAS INCOMPETENT! Everybody else got to be low level leadership. They got to be right up at the front in the smallest spearhead elements, divisions of just ten thousand men. Meanwhile I was trying to pull things together at the HQ. BADER was a better commander than me!"

"It's okay now, Heinie... it's okay."

Werner Heisenberg as the minister of Russian affairs... I would be concerned if somebody actually appointed a nuclear physicist as a minister of the affairs concerning my country.
