After completeing Restoration's story now I currently work as a CapCom's gun-for-hire. And, as I continue my journey I can't help but notice the tremendous number of mechs, whose tonnage are equal or above 60 tonns. Usuallu, many people would complain about divergence from lore, but I think that HBS' Inner Spehere more suit my taste and here is why.

We all know that a Suspension of Disbelief is MUST to enjoy many sci-fi verses and BT is not an exception. But still Battletech try her best to hit as many "hard science" points as she can. So, large numbers of heavy/assault mechs would suggests there is a producing lines that could sate the hunger of not only major states but even certain powerful undeground bosses. And I really think it's good!

Coz' if mechs would have their lore abysmall producing rates they would dissapears from any sensible lord's army rosters long ago, replaced with good ol' dutiful and reliable tanks. If you can produce 100 Demolishers while your enemy can construct 2 King Crabs you WILL stay like this and you WILL win! Not even an Atlas could even hope to survive the showdown with 40 Manticores!

Thus, keep comping hordes of Banshees, Awesomes!

My headcanon for it has been that while only a certain number of new chassis are produced each year, the fact is there are untold numbers of chassis in mech graveyards or left abandoned on long forgotten battlefields that are being salvaged every year at a much, much greater rate than the production of new chassis. The problem for states is that salvage is unreliable and may not provide you with mechs possessing load outs in terms of armaments you can produce, but on the other hand weapons are much cheaper to import than fully fledged mechs. This would also help explain the sometimes rather "large" arsenals in the hands of various pirate realms, and on top of them there being even more pirates unaffiliated with those larger groups. Also, the fluff tells us that most mercenary companies are supposed to be company sized, but nearly every named one I can find is far larger, which makes sense because they're important, but the dozens of minor companies for every named one need to be getting their mechs and the parts to maintain them from somewhere. So, this game's model of salvage may be even a little too much for my tastes, but I think the general idea can serve as sufficient explanation for what we see in-game.

The not-so-secret secret of Battletech is that 'mechs just don't make sense, even within their own universe. A Leopard-class dropship can carry a single lance of 'mechs, or a Gazelle-class can carry an entire company of combat vehicles AND weighs 1,000 tons less than the Leopard. Battlemechs are almost always far more expensive than a vehicle of comparable capability (armament, speed, armor).
