I was addicted to syndicate for a long time, completeing the missions and making my evil corporate empire overlord over the world was super fun

At the time though i always thought the game could have been made more interesting, if there had been a degree of diplomacy with the other synicates, and more of a competition for power. So long since i played it, but i seem to remember that if another syndicate took over your western europe holdings, all you had to do was the same easy mission again to get it back.

Here are a few things i would love to see in cartel.

1)A more active system of defense and offense, there should still be tricky missions, but sometimes we should just have mass shoot outs in the streets with other cartels

1a)Hopefully we could send more henchmen than just four!

2)I hope that there will be an everpresent law enforcement that may or may not try to stop you, based on some kind of corruption score. For example one area might have very dedicated and incoruptable law enforcement, while another will be in the pocket of a cartel... (maybe not yours however, and you still have to watch out then) You could do things to shange he level of corruption as wel.

3)If it could have a great deal of business management, with being able to choose the actvities you are involved with to get money. (legal and illegal) It would be great to have moments where you realize your whole business plan is ruined because some other cartel infiltrated and destroyed a key podution area and you did not bother to post enough security

4)Can we design our own headquarters and defences? and maybe other bases that may be atacked by other cartels? That would be so cool

Anyway, i will be watching the developement of this with interest, and would like to hear what other people are hopng to se in cartel.

syndicate was one of those old games that ive always hoped would be updated/redone. i realise this isnt a sequel or even the same devs so im not expecting syndicate 2 but im really hoping the gameplay and atmosphere wont be a massive departure from the original which i still regard as one of the best games ive ever played.

Well I've never played syndicate or anything in the x-com series or anything so I'd have to see, it's hard to tell like what a game's going to be like based on the description, but it sounds quite good based on the interview. Evil genius was a pretty interesting and innovative concept... and it'd be good to see more games like it continue to be supported and developed, and I would definitely buy it based on my impression with the demo.

I just hope this doesnt end like something completely different trying to be original like it was the case with dungeons.
I was waiting for something like dungeon keeper, and probably most of the people who bought it was well. The devs used that name and feel to appeal to the dungeon keeper crowd without denying the rumors that it would anything like DK.
And when the game came out we got some original kind of "The Sims" game in a dungeon setting instead that quickly went to the garbage bin.

As a Dungeon Keeper fan, and a the Sims fan, I have to disagree.
Dungeons sucked, but it was not "The Sims" in a dungeon, that would have been cool. :)

This is an interesting development so another who will be definately keeping an eye on it.

I think one of the most difficult things with this type of game will be to capture some kind of atmosphere. Many of the old games, as limited as they were did quite good job at doing so. The artwork seemed to fit the setting, the music did the rest. Some of these old games are gems by design, something that lacks quite a bit with modern games. I doubt that the developer behind this game has the power to pull off a super realistic 3D environment and therefore does not try it. The original Syndicate created its world with whopping 16 colours and nicely designed and animated sprites.

We don't even know who's making it, how much experience they have and whether they will be able to delver a quality product. To make something comparable even remotely to classic Syndicate you need a spark of genius and a lot of hard work (and $$$), not just a merc team of random programmers.

We'll know how it goes when devs finally introduce themselves to us...

I've never played Syndicate, but I've played games that I've been told are cheap imitations of it and I enjoyed them overmuch. These kind of games make me want to squeal with delight! I just hope that it has a sick soundtrack and a smooth interface. I know the Paradox devs know how to make a good interface, but this is out-of-house...

Which exactly cheap imitiations do you have in mind?

Syndicate had the strategic part in form of research and finances. It wasn't a very deep part (I hope Cartel is mainly a strategy game btw), but it was there.

Likewise...I'm a huge strategy fan (isn't that obvious being on these forums) and I need more strategy games to play, been playing Men of War Assault Squad...those are some long damn levels...It's been slow to beat the game because each level takes about an hour and a half for me to beat...it's not that it's overly difficult it's that my primary fighting style is slow purposeful advances, always moving forward, never moving to engage. I make the enemy come to me while moving forward just enough to make them do so. And then falling back to my overwhelming Artillery and AT guns... and now I'm completely Off-topic...this happens a lot.

Anyway syndicate looks promising and I can't wait to play it!

On another forum I was linked to the Rock, Paper, Shotgun list of possibly good 2012 PC games. This sounded interesting from the brief description and the linked interview and I was surprised I hadn't heard about it, having played a lot of Paradox games in the past. I'm looking forward hearing more about this.
