I just picked this game up on Steam. Yes, I understand all the basic elements but I don't understand what I'm trying to achieve.

Compared to our other games, the goal of Sengoku should be very clear: uniting Japan under your rule as a strong Shogun.

World domination! Heh, seriously your goal is to unite Japan under one banner. It is a rather lovely game in that it does actually have a rather definitive goal compared to some other PI games.
