Red Alert had A satelite-like view, Red Alert 2 was rather a close view,
cliffs and ranges were close, so like a view from further away, and the buildings small, so you could imagine finer complexes and more happening about it, not described in the game.

Red Alerd had Ships, not many, but valuable, and Submarines!, if only the AI had played them!
It also had planes, not many, but it was a game element.

Tiberium Sun and RA2 had destructable bridges (refers to this thread https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ridges-destructable-this-time-around.1002718/), and ways to have a very competetive match, even against AI, TS had also amphibious included.

Now we go into deeper, and more real, less parallel universe and get Steel Division.
Now we have Zoom with near and satelite control,
we have planes, we have hilly terrain with tactical options (for each infantry, tanks and artillery and so on),
now we have a much deeper town and infantry focus: good!, and everything is deeper.

Now give us some heros, some ships, and even if its not neccessary to be included, some base building and additional features like destructable bridges are not far away.

A big difference I can still find is that base defences were much more valuable in ealier days, and are on a pretty lost place, I would wish that you could fortify your areas somehow...
With military camps, with ground works, mines, pioneers tools to cross rivers, explosives, no unbeatable nests, but also not obsolete/unneccessary to use. (Even if only mobile-forces fortifications).

I can just not have enough of that sort of games! (Of course, those fortifications must have a multiplayer-efficient usage, that does not need ages to perform, in the time you control the menu, somebody surrounds you.)
And you need efficient ways to crack up those fortificated areas, and a bit easier spotting than in Wargame, because I always lost my scouts right before a battle, leaving my tanks not fireing just in the moment I wanted to attack the spotted targets with them. Might be, that its just realistic like in Wargame, you have to live with that, but is there no way to make it easier, without disable cover bonuses totally?
RUSE as a counterpart made covers a bit useless, or defenseless, because once spotted, it was naked like on open field.

THATS WHY you need fortifications!
