I have allways been a EU2 fan, though I still havent played a Multiplayer game. I've had the game for quite some time. Now, I was thinking about it here the other day, so I went here and checked out some AAR's. This really got me wanting to play it again, maybe get someone to play a Mulitplayer with me. So I insert the everworking CD. I start to install, and all looks good. But then I come to the movies. And an error comes. The error is something that it cant read a .bik file. I think this the movies, as it was the Paradox.bik that failed first, and other times I tried to install some of the other .bik files got this problem. I located the bik files on the cd folder, but I dont think anything can be done, exept buying another EU2, which I dont know where, and I dont know if I can afford it :(

Theres no real point of this post, with the possible exeption of letting you all know how frickin' glad you should be your EU2 works!

*goes to play HOI, which I suck at*

look on amazon for another CD - I found that Amazon.co.uk had EUII for £7.49 + p&p (about € 10.00 / US$ 13.25 [ $'s would normally be less but your exchange rates suck right now.] )

Edited - I got the gist of the message wrong.

Let's move you to support!
*Moved

*Changes Hat to Support Mod one.

Okay now that we are in support you have a couple of options.
You can update your operating system, XP has a fix for this.
Or you can just rename the AVI folder to AVI_back and you will skip the intros.

Well, I cant get the game installed. It allways stops and everything allready done is gone after this happens. I can't rename anything on the CD either, unless theres some way of doing this.

About the updating thing. Why would that help? I mean, the problem is on the CD, with the files there that cant be installed.

Sorry I thought you were talking about the intro movies for the game not the installer.

Same thing applies, about updating the operating system though. It matters since XP screwed up the program that plays the AVI files! updating your Operating system will correct this XP bug. ;) Assuming you have XP that is.

Ok, thx, I'll try this out :)

Nah, didnt work :(

It slowly got past Paradox.bik, but then the error happend at eu2_into.bik ... it says "Computer Error - [something Norwegian] - CRC....
Dont know if I got the right update though, not really sure what to get.

You should get everything for XP plus the critical updates.

What version of the game do you have is it the scandinavian one?
The publishers logo should be on the CD.

Scandinavian patch installation problem

FIX Part 1: originally posted by Patric
Scandinavian EU2 installation problem (setup.inx)

This is a compatibility issue with some CD readers and the copy protection.

You can download a working file here:
http://www.paradoxplaza.com/files/patches/setup_inx.zip

Try to copy the whole installation to the hd and install from there. Put the downloaded setup.inx in the same folder and off you go. I just tested it and it works like a charm.

Don't copy the *.vpp files though

If you choose to make a custom installation and play music from the CD you will have to edit the music.ini file after installation. Just change as follows:

####My installation####

[Common]
music=c:\Program Files\Europa Universalis 2\MUSIC

####Change to####

[Common]
music=X:\MUSIC

Where X is the drive letter for your CD rom drive. After that you can delete all the installation files you copied manually from the CD.

Not sure if I get this. Should I copy the entire cd to the harddrive, then use the downloaded file to install or?

But Im quite sure the problem is with the .bik files, and if they arent replaced by anything here, then I dont think itll work anyway. Im going to try this out tomorrow.

Yes copy everything to the HD.

try borrowing a cdrom drive from a friend.

It might also be the drive that is broken/or dirty

All other games work good. I just played HoI (which I suck at) at it.. going to try to install the game a few more times, and see if he can get over those videos which he almost managed a few times.

you cd might be bad, but there is no guarantee that trying with another cd drive will not solve your problem

How did you try to copy them?

Cd

I'm no expert, but if you have a friend or access to another computer with a CD-ROM, you should try copying the .bik files from your EU2 CD to the HD to see if its your computer or the EU2 CD. If its the EU2 CD, they aren't expensive to buy now.

What OS do you have now?
Does it always stop on the same file?

Don't give up! EU2 remains paradox's best game yet.

More likely to be a problem with the CD drive and the Copy protection then the CD itself.
