As some of you know, I've recently moved across the continent and begun life as a grad student. With this new life come certain privileges and sacrifices. One privilege I've come to enjoy is the ability to do what I want on Thursdays, and with the intention of maximizing my enjoyment of this remarkable day of the week I've determined that some of the day should be spent playing Eu2.

Time: Thursdays, 18:30 CET / 16:30 GMT / 12:30 EST / 9:30 Pacific, three hours long or more.

Started Thursday, September 22

Player List:

Spain - Holistic God
England - Rasputine
France - King John
OE - Cheech
Austria - Fraese
Sweden - Moredhel
Poland - Pibe

Rules:

I reserve the right to adjudicate any conflict in game, as GM. In exchange for this power I promise to be relentlessly fair and uncompromisingly impartial, and in case of controversy will listen to both sides of the argument.

I am very much against making fundamental edits to countries during the course of a game - if a country is radically mishandled, it will not be dramatically revived so someone else can take it over; to make this work, I will act quickly if someone is irresponsibly destroying their country and playing short term in some ridiculous fashion. Here are some pointers to avoid my intervention - note that these are not hard and fast rules, but merely guidelines to help you avoid me intervening to prevent you from destroying your own country, and should the circumstances justify it you may depart from these guidelines with caution:

1: Accept stab hitting offers of peace when you are at -3 stability
2: Avoid going bankrupt and keep inflation below 20%
3: Show up on time for sessions or arrange a sub in advance

Excellent! Now we just need 12 more people... the connection I'm on now really flies at 10mbps both ways... when it's available (only during the day)

Where're you located roughly? I'm just concerned as to the stability of a game run half-way around the world... otherwise I'm very interested in joining up.

England, I want England...

Though it would appear as though the game would be @ 8am for me... ugh, nevertheless if thats how it has to be - I am an addict...

DF, great to have you in the game :D

I'll be playing at 10:00 AM so you're not the only addict here

I don't have any major objection to you playing England, but it is common for players new to MP to take 2nd tier powers in their first couple of games to leave themselves some room to err. Think about it; I actually think England can be a good spot for new players but others might disagree.

Yeah, as I said in the email - I've played a bunch of Mp before (finished games as Portugal, Russia, Brandenburg, England & a few games as France)... but England is by far my favorite... though I really think n00bs should play France, England and Spain. In my experience if you put the better players in those nations, they run away with the game - unless you get three competitive players in France, England & Spain... then you could get some healthy colonial competition.

But to give you an example, in our gang's current game I'm playing France and due to a weak Austria was able to unify France & Italy in short order and am undoubtedly the hegemon of continental europe (I dont have the fleet to hurt England, but could fight a coalition of the other four player nations quite well and its only the 17th century)...

England though has the MP handicap which prevents her from being too dominant in the non-economic areas. But otherwise my advice is to put weaker players in the great powers and the best players in mid-level powers (At the risk of sounding arrogant...I'd volunteer to switch out if it was evident that I was one of the more experienced/able players)

I have only played one MP until now, ATE 1 and Im currently playing my second mp ATE 2... so you can call me a noob (even though I did fairly well in ATE 1... playing France :p )...

So I would like to try austria, england or russia... thanks

Yes, Austria is the hardest nation in most MP games and needs to be played competently. However, if a major gets really screwed over it can upset the balance of power in even more dramatic ways - for instance, if Spain collapses economically after the bankruptcy events (ie. goes into the events with high inflation not anticipating what's going to happen) it produces a domino effect in all the countries Spain would otherwise support, and it can make things much easier for, say, France. If France collapses early, it can also get pretty crazy, Austria getting really huge, etc... there are tradeoffs to everything, but a major power getting totally mishandled is worse than the same in a minor player imho. Weaker than average majors can be a lot of fun though ;)

In this case I would gladly take Branbenburg :)

Hehe, I didn't mean *you* delosandes, was just speaking in generalities.

BTW - everyone ask someone else if they would like to play in this game, I'd like to get the roster set as quickly as possible and start this Thursday if we can.

I`ll do my best :)

Edit: I think It would attract more people if you could change the threat name to "new Thursday’s game" or something like that

Hmm, I agree that a major nation getting itself screwed can imbalance the game - in fact this is precisely one of the reasons my current MP game as France is on a longer than expected hiatus...

its 1650something... Spain & Austria suddenly and deliberately and without provocation declared war on poor innocent France, Spain is completely unable to defend herself against her northern neighbor and with 70+ percent inflation doesn't wish to continue playing as she's crippled beyond repair. However, between myself and an aggressive English player were we to agreed to his request to switch to an eastern european power thats in better shape (the turks, russians or poles for example) it would leave spain at the mercy of myself and my english neighbor (dividing her empire between us prior to my diplo-annexing her)... so this Spanish crisis has brought the game to a halt as my younger brother (who is spain) does not wish to continue with his wreck of an empire as it is, and nor could we tolerate an AI taking over as Spain would not survive to see 1700 without a human at the helm.

So yes, long story short - I completely understand what you mean about not putting a less able player in control of a major, the game can turn ugly very quickly...

Though I do have to disagree with you on one thing at least.
Hardest major nations to play as would rank like this (IMHO):
1. Russia
2. Brandenburg
3. Portugal
4. Ottoman Empire
5. Austria
6. Sweden/Denmark
7. Spain
8. England
9. France (France is the easiest country to play, followed by England if you ask me)

My preference is still to play England... and I'm 100% certain that I could get two more guys to play if we played later in the day (what would be Thursday evening on the west coast of the US). However I understand this may not be possible, I just wanted to let you know about that (though I am partially hoping you'll reject this as impossible such that I can arrange a *separate* game for Thursday evenings)... though one of my friends is even more of an addict than I, so I'll still ask him. But yeah still put me down for England please.

I think there are two kind of noobs:

1 the ones who rock at SP and have been playing EU2 for a year or so...
2 the ones who usually fail playing SP...

To the 2ª ones I would advice them to keep playing the SP mode until they get better...

If you have a game where there are great "SP" noobs and great "MP" players then the best way of balancing the scenario would be to give the major powers to these kind of noobs and the minor powers to the good players...

A noob that manages to play well in SP would hardly destroy his country by himself, in most of the cases there is a great MP Player playing a neighbouring major country that attacks and conquer the noobs nation...
If the great player is playing with a minor power, then he might attack on the noobs major and it would be a much fair fight because the great player would have Man Power and Financial handicap...

My humble opinion...

i will try a hypertecher Poland :)

what scenario are we using?

England is a good nation for a newb and so is OE since you got that distance security for the early part and you're garunteed some good income anyway with egypt, but it's always best to have a great Turk player :p

Pube! Poland? Fill in the important nations first :eek:o
