I play mymap, I think the most recent release of it, from two or three years ago.

What's the best way to play as them? I recently decided to force-vassalise and then diplomatically annex the Uzbeks (and Delhi) in a game, and it seemed to do two things to me: 1. Make me a lot tougher. 2. Make me a bigger target. And the second dissolution of the Timurid Empire hit me and split me in two parts, and I unfortunately don't have any cores on Balkh, Ferghana, oir Kabul, but they are fortunately allied to each other.

Anyone have any good ideas? Things to do should I restart?

I'm not sure whether it's the same on MyMap, but as the Timurids i thought that you could eventually become the Mughal Empire. If that's true, then perhaps your best bet is to consolidate your resources and try to regain some of what was lost.
I hear playing as the Timurids can be brutal.
Do you have any cores on your other neighbors?

Timurids can become the mughal empire, and that's what I eventually did. Survival was easier with the Uzbek lands, and I made enough money to buy off russia if they attacked me, and I vassalized some indian states that attacked me, and Khorasan is a piece of cake if you build a lot of cavalry. Unfortunately I had to trigger the event that makes you become the mughal empire myself.

Anyways, playing as the Timurid Empire is impossible in the beginning, but you are offered about thirty years of good teching if you do it right. Long before the dissolution events, you can have trade level 3. I tried to rush to governors this time around, but I only got to infra 4 just after the first dissolution events.

Unfortunately central asia is not a rich place by this point in the game, so even with orthodox tech (as I went pagan and stayed there) I'm going kinda slow. 300 years earlier, before the Mongol Hordes, it was richer than Europe, and more heavily populated.

These lands were rarely at peace, specially at this time.

And after the Ilkhanate's dissolution into countless states, it was even worse. Hopefully Timur came and fixed things... for a while (god, there were so many splinter states, it was even worse then the Timurid Collapse).

Was there any land in the world which saw the rise and fall of so many empires through history?
