I've been playing Cities Skylines 2 for a while now. I'm surprised they haven't done anything yet to reduce traffic, because it's not normal to have the same amount of traffic at the same times of day and in all areas. Do you know if they'll ever change that? Thanks.

There are morning and evening rush hours. Cims travel to work around 7 AM and travel home around 5 PM. They go out for leisure activities and shopping in the evening as well. Traffic volume charts for bi-directional roads will look fairly flat because they measure traffic in both directions. If you select one direction of a separated couple, there should be a clear peak in the morning or evening depending on the direction.

That's basically a design choice as realistic traffic in regards of the unrealistic time of day cycle wouldn't work.

Citizen on large cities would not be able to reach schools or workplaces within the given time frames while traffic is simulated in real time, so there is some shift into the night direction. Rush hours however also exist as already pointed out.

If you want to see a more realistic cycle you can install the "Realistic Trips" mod and configure it to your liking - with this you can slow down the day/night cycle, simulate a full work week and invent more days for a month. Also it adds more dynamic timings for each citizen depending on the distance to the destination and more realistic truck handling (trucks prefer evenings/early mornings).

As long as they walk miles... It's normal there is no traffic at all. Some examples of a city:
As you can see the factories are in one side and in the other all the residential. People walk all the way to work. And also they go out of the city (for any reason) walking on the highway.

Just adding to the recommendation, Realistic Trips is one of the best mods out there for Cities Skylines 2.

Yes, I agree! I set the time factor to 3 and it feels way more realistic to see that people who set off for work don't come towards those who are going home.

But I unsubbed this mod because it had an impact on performance.

Even after the last patch? For me the impact now is basically minor.

I'm giving it a try. I have my current 118k city and set the traffic reduction to zero and time stretching to 3.5. Default mod setting is "performance". It still hits 4x smooth speed. Looks good!
