Not sure if this has been posted before or not, although it was spotted in the livestreams... but transports do not upgrade their FTL's as new techs are researched. For Wormholes and Hyperlanes, this doesn't make a big difference, only increases the cooldowns on reinitiating FTL. But for Warp Drives, this can be debilitating. Say you're playing in a galaxy with spiral arms and a low star count, with sizable gaps between the arms. With the starting Warp Drive it's impossible to bridge this gap. Now, since troop transports can never cross this gap, in order to invade planets of an empire on another arm, you need to establish a foothold in that arm by another means - colonize a planet, integrate a vassal, something like that. Just to build up a ground invasion force to be used within that specific galactic arm.

Please allow troop transports to be upgradeable inside the starship designer. It's not so I can get shields or armor on it, it's so that I can put on better FTL if I desire. Or at least have the auto-designed ships actually auto-upgrade.

It appears that the troop transport is bound to one of the other ship designs, I'm pretty sure it's the colony ship but not 100%. I was having this issue last night and was able to fix it by changing all my auto created utility ships to the latest tech (colony/construction/science). Then the upgrade button on the transports was available. This is a great solution but it is a workaround until PDX either makes them auto upgrade or makes a class for them.
