Hello,

I just got my copy of CK and have encountered a rather odd problem.

1) My operating system is French.
2) I have various Paradox games in English.
3) I have CK in French.
4) My copy of HOI2 is in German.

When I try to install HOI2 I get the Istall Shield Wizard for CK (french as the system). When I run it, it installs HOI2, but tries to do so in the CK default directory (haven't actually tried doing that yet as it would obviously seriously mess with my CK instalation). So I rename the install directory (still in the Wizard) as well as in the Program Folder (not sure that is the correct english name) to Hearts of Iron 2. I end up with an apparently correctly installed version of HOI2. But once I run the 1.2 patch instalation (or 1.1 which I also tried to install) I get an error message saying HOI2 is not installed (obviously as the instalation overwrote the CK registry entry it seems (wonder what that does to CK when I try to run or patch that)).

I believe this problem is related to my having a French system and my copy of HOI2 being German. I expect the system looks for a native language (in this case french) install file first and for whatever reason thinks the CK file is appropriate to install HOI2.

So, any sugestions on how to correctly install HOI2? I already de-installed it via the system configuration panel. I guess a last resort might be to de-install CK (probably manually now that it's registry entry has been messed up), possibly also all the other Paradox games currently installed (I probably got all but 2, though EU1 is no longer installed) and try a fresh instalation of HOI2. But I'd really prefer finding an easier way.

Please PM the details of where you bought the game, what information is on the CD including any logo that are on the CD.

Okay I will reopen this I just wanted to check because this usually occurs only on Pirate versions.

It also does sometimes occur when you try and use a copy manufactored for one region in another region. Which apears to be the case here.
You are trying to play a German version in French.

I would uninstall and try setting the windows language settings to German, then install. If no luck try English next.

Okay will try, problem is of course that here in Luxembourg we sit right on top of the language border so that I alwas end up with software in different languages (I used to try and keep it clean, but that was in english, and since my newest computer (now going on two years) was setup in french I was saddled with mixed origins from the start and never had any problems until now...

Thanks, it worked. I changed windows' language to German as you suggested, deinstalled HOI2 and reinstaled it from scratch. This time I got the German language InstallShield Wizard and all went correctly including patching up to 1.2.
