Tutorial Map (aka...newbie help)

I've been working my way thru the Tutorial map and I am at the point where I need to 'Go TO War'. Now, I'm allied with Catalonia (Marriage and Military Alliance), and they are at war with another country (starts with a 'M'...sorry I can't remember the name . My rating with country M us -130. I've been sending them nasty letters to bring down my rating with them, but for some reason I can not attack or DoW. Any ideas why?

As long as you have a diplomat, you should be able to declare war on country M. Click one of their provinces, then click the diplomacy icon. You should get a large flyout menu with your diplomatic options options for that country. If "Declare War" is not one of them, look up at the top left of the screen where you have two options listed: "View Alliances" and "View Relations". Switching to the other option should show the correct menu.

I believe you can also get the Declare War option by right-clicking one of the target country's provinces, but I'm not sure about that.

I'm assuming that you couldn't find the "Declare War" option. If you could find it and it just wouldn't let you pick it, then I'm not sure what is wrong. Double-check that you have a diplomat left to actually deliver the news to country M.

Did you already discover the country M.? Or do you merely know it exists because you read its name on Catalonia diplo screen?If not, I believe you can't DoW this country (or more generally have any kind of diplo relations with her), indeed...

I've discoverd one of country M's provience in North Africa and I can see the home capital (looks like Egypt), but I do not have a direct path to it. The capital is surronded by TI.

As for Diplomacy, DoW is greyed out. I can send a diplomat to M and I can set a Trade Embargo, send positive letters, gifts, nasty letters, etc... but no DoW.

Any ideas?

Maybe you can't DoW someone whose capital if surrounded by TI? Can you create a path to their capital? Then DoW them?

Country M

You are probably talking about the Malmeluks of Egypt. Their capital is in Egypt or maybe Alexandria. Probably the quickest way to get what you want is to fill a ship with 1000 troops and try to unload them in Egypt. If the undiscovered country is occupied by a country you are not at war with, your troops return to the ship and the provence becomes discovered. You should then be able to see the capital and thus declare war.

That could do it. The tutorial wants me to go to war with M because Catalonia and I have an alliance and Catalonia and M are at war with each other.

..I think this is starting to make sense.

..Well, that didn't work. I was able to sail my way over to Egypt where M has it's capital, but I was still unable to DoW. My guess is, since the map was a tutorial map, that not everything "acts" normaly. So, I figured the best way to learn how to DoW was to play an actual map. In this case I went with Fantasia.

I didn't have this problem when I played the tutorial, as far as I remember...Anyway, the tutorial is quite boring, so you shouldn't have any regret.


Not sure the fantasia scenario is half as fun as the historical ones, by the way...
