Hello, can someone please help me?

I've installed my HoI Platinum game and I can't seem to get through the tutorials. Most of them pretty much seem to jam up at one point or another. I can move around the screen and do things but the tutorial instructions don't seem to move to the next stage after about 8-10 stages even though I've done what it has instructed (and tried everything else under the sun too).

I have the minimum requirements and then some. The game publisher is - uhm - Atari, Paradox, Bink Video...? I bought it in Canada (North American version I assume unless its a bizarre import...)

I've tried installing the 1.06 patch - before and after re-installing HoI.

I've NOT re-set the windows registry (?) as I don't know how.

Another thing: It says on the back of the box that it should come with a manual - but mine didn't. Is that a printing error or did someone pilfer mine, re-seal the box, and send it back to the store before I bought it? There's no readme.txt manual that I can track down on the disk either...

I've killed a rare day-off trying to figure this out. Please help before I go bananas.

Are you sure there is no PDF manual on the CD?

Which tutorial and at what stage?

Patch 1.06 or 1.06C ?

Tutorial Problem... and manual? Cont.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I believe the patch I've used is the 1.06 without the 'c'. At least the exe file doesn't have a 'c' in it. But the web-site I downloaded it from says it works on all English versions if that means much. I'll download the other one anyways when I get a chance - although its a right pain. It's 27 megs small and I'm on a dial-up modem (I live like Hansel and Grettle out in a forest where the cable people fear to wander...).

Chapter 3 (resource management) is the one that I'm itching to learn (although others seem to get stuck as well). It keeps getting stuck on the part right after setting up convoys - it says something like - "Now click on the factory icon again and go to the world market." So I do that and it won't continue from there - the message remains displayed without an "ok" option to advance. The yellow arrow continues to point at the world market bar on the bottom right - or in the same place on the screen wherever the screen scrolls to. From there I've pretty much tried everything - clicking all over town, pressing all the keys, talking dirty to it... making promises I can't keep.

There's definately no pdf file on the disk. I've looked manually as well as used the file searcher. I've managed to find a pdf manual on the internet so that problem's solved except for the nagging feeling that I've been robbed. Definately says there's a manual on the box - "Hearts of Iron - Platinum includes the CORE patch and an updated manual".

Here's a silly question - My actual disk doesn't say "Platinum" on it (the box does though). Should it? Could some cheeky little monkey have bought the game, swapped his old HoI for the Platinum version inside and then returned it to the shop where the unsuspecting merchant gave him a refund - and now I'm left holding the bag?

Cheers,

Andy

Not sure what the Platinum edittion contained I can check on that for you on Monday.

If CORE is include on the CD then you do have the Platinum edittion disk.
I also think that the Platinum edittion was at least 1.06 already. Version # should apear on the main screen.
1.06C is different than 1.06.
Look at the sticky thread on this forum the one labeled "latest patch is ..."
You will find the official links to the correct patches.

Reinstall DO not install CORE or any other user made Mod. That may be your problem.
Update to 1.06C if necessary, play Tutorials, then Install some Mods if you like.

Tutorial missing manual

Just to let you know your CD as the latest patch and there is no PDF manual for game paly except some Naval information.
I also had problems with the tutorial but the manual helped. If you bought it from EB in Canada they are rectifying the problem. I eventually got a call from a store manager telling me they were on the way as of 09 Dec and I would still be waiting. However I contacted Paradox support and received the manual the next day. That maybe your best option if the store is of no help. I know the EB staff did not have a clue about the manual. I hope this helps. :D

Opps, call it being very busy, my mind seams to be slipping. :)
I forgot all about the Canadian Manual thing.
Thanks jdrou for reminding us.
