1st:

When I try to start the game it says the following, I've googled it and some have had the same issue. Updated drivers, running updaters, I think I've done both. I have windows * I ran the updater from the charm bar twice. First time it found updates but it sitll says it.

The error word by word is:

128mb of video memory is required to run this game!
However the game will start but this may cause instability and reduced graphics preformance.

Think is meant to say performance but w.e

I am not pc illiterate, beyond the basic web surfing I am not sure how to find other things. I wrongly assumed that since I can play Company of Heroes, Rome Total War, Empire, Napoleon Civ 5, that I could play this game...

2nd: I still can play but an issue every month is a dreaded time because sometimes it CTD. Whether I have the autosave on or off it does not matter is when the new month begins that it might happen, you know when the revenue golden numbers pop up from your regions.. It might happen twice or 4 times a year.

Thanks for any help... not sure if both issues are related but just in case and to avoid having two posts

Where do you have the game from? Steam, GamersGate, a boxed set or elsewhere?

Starty the game up and go to begin an MP game as host - what version and checksum show there?

please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the "Sound devices" section for brevity), settings.txt, system.log and error.log files (you'll need to rename the .log files to .txt to upload).

Ok I will do my best here.

Game: Bought it on Amazon from GeeksWholesaler, placed the Order on the 11, arrived today in the early afternoon, quite fast actually. Was about 12 bucks with shipping included. I know I know Steam has it but I don't like buying copies unless I can sell them as well. Its the principle.

2nd... I don't know what you are talking about but if you mean the only numbers on the lower right. It says

Rome v2.32c (HFGK)

3rd.

I never done this before had to google to know what you meant so let me give it a shot.

Rome v2.32c (HFGK)
That's a bad checksum, so either you've edited the game or you have a corrupt install.
Bought it on Amazon from GeeksWholesaler, placed the Order on the 11, arrived today in the early afternoon, quite fast actually.
So I guess it was a CD version. And presumably you had to download and apply the 2.32 patch from the launcher, or from the sticky thread in the main forum? Try a full clean re-install.

Uninstall the game, and then manually delete the game directory - this is important. Reinstall Rome:Gold - choose a new directory like c:\games\rome instead of the suggested path. Download the 2.32c patch, and run it to install it; make 100% sure you point it to that same new directory above so that for instance the new rome.exe overwrites the old one, the new romegame.exe overwrites the old one, and so on. Once done right-click on the game's desktop icon and set it to run as administrator, and to disable desktop composition.

OK!!!>.. finally managed to get rid of the game to do a fresh install.

So to answer them again

Rome 2.32c (SWBL) is the new thing

Now I run it as admin, but the disable desktop composition I don't know what that means.

Everytime I run it it sitll gives me the 128mb error message. And I've played a few years and it still crashes on some months when the revenue golden numbers pop up.

So anybody? The saves are now about 1.8 mb and is getting to the point where it happens every two months. I've set the graphics to bare minimum , on max, it doesn't really matter.

I've deleted the folder after uninstalling it, had to use CClceaner to get rid of the registry left overs which won't let me reinstall.

I reinstall to desktop I've tried on a folder called games on the dekstop., I applied the patch. During the early years is fine but when the savegames get beyond 1.5mb they start causing so much issues.

I only keep 2 save games in the entire folder...

Those save games are not very big, in EU4 they're like 20-50mb. Really shouldn't be an issue, you may have a game bug - see the 2.36 beta thread in this forum.

Desktop Composition exists in Vista and Win7 only, in the .exe properties - compatibility menu.

Yeah I been googling that for Windows 8 Apparently I can't turn it off in W8.

I've uninstalled it and did it again. The 2.32 gives me the same issues eventually. Most of the time is at the end of the month. I give up I'll play with this until it gets too unbearable then drop the game. Thanks for the help.

You don't want to try the beta patch? It does fix a number of crashes. If you do want to give it a go, copy your 2.32 installation elsewhere (eg c:\games\rome-beta\) and only install the beta over that.

I have the beta, the 2.36. I have a vanilla version Here is how many folders

I have a 2.32, a 2.36, a 2.32 installed with Epigoni 2.01c and another 2.36 with epigoni 2.01d, and a vanilla backup.
So in total I got 5 different ones. Installed in different folders just in case.

Every single one of them crashes at some point or another at the beginning of the month when the yellow numbers for revenue pop up. With autosave on or off does not matter.

I cut and paste my saves into a backup folder on my desktop to keep the saves folder with as few as possible. By few I mean 2-3. Some years are worse than others. thing is the error doesn't say anything when it crashes it just says "rome has stopped working and windows must close it".

So, I played vanilla, 2.32, 2.36 and Epigoni 2.01c,2.01d that crash bug when the revenue numbers pop up happens in all of them. The further I go into the game the more frequent they become. I resorted to play in 1128x700 or something. The longer I play the less resolution I have to apply to not see it crash every other month. But there will come a point that I wont be able to lower it any further Is small enough as it is.

Decided to keep digging. Angry enough to try to fix it than to leave it.

Windows came up with this:

incompatible 1.png

And... I just did it. The 128mb thing still appears and the game crashes every few years nothing major. But that is because every version I had was patched to the 2.36. I simply patched to 2.32 game runs mostly smooth. So yeah it was the latest BETA patch that was the problem. That is what I was running for Epigoni and the main game.

I think before installing I went crazy and patched the "backup" Installation folder with 2.36 so whenever I copied it for a new mod installation it was already BETA.

Doesn't mean it doesn't crash every now and then but I go about a year without a crash.
