I can't understand what is going on here.

I downloaded and installed the 61.76 nVidia drivers.

everything was smooth but when i run the game, i see the video starting, i press escape to get to the point faster ;) and then just black screen.
and that's it.

i didn't have any problem like that with the older drivers.. hm..

the game was bit laggy so i though updating the drivers could help things.

my specs are
1.3 duron
256ram
geforce4 mx440 64ddr
80gb hdd

can you please tell me what could be wrong?

oh my! it seems that there's even more into it! when i start eu2 i just momentary get the blue screen.

something fishy is going here, i couldn't access the my computer hardware profiles to remove the drivers.

awwwwww i love win98se

just a tip: hit ctrl+alt+delete and then close the bink vidio thing

oh, and if you use win98: Have you restarted the computer, doing it twice

no no
nothing like that..
it's just that these new drivers doesn't work with me.
i installed the older ones 53.04
and everything is smooth now

still i find no reason for the strange behaviour of my pc.
;[

Try the following and it should clear things up.
1) Rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
2) Set the color depth to 16BIT
3) Turn off everything in the background like E-mail/ICQ/Messenger, Virus protection and everything in the system tray beside the clock

please, i know these
anyway the problem seemed to be with eu2 too and other ddhelp applications

hmm
i have directx9b, i guess the new drivers are too new for me ;)

Well, like Castellon already said (he actually knows these things, you should listen to his advice :) ) rename AVI folder to AVI_back. If you get the opening video, then you haven't renamed the AVI folder. If you have renamed the AVI folder, you don't get the video, and chances are good you'll get the game going :)

you don't understand - the problem is not in the bink videos

does Nvidia have a forum? chances is prity high you are not the only one with the problem and that forum (if it exists) might have a solution/answer

How do you KNOW that.

I've similar problem: I've an athlon 1.2 ghz with Geforce 4 mx 440 ddr, with driver 61.76 game (only CK, directx 9.1b) won't start at all and sistem crash with blue screen, I must reset PC.

Using 56.64 (if I remember correctly the number), the game start normally... but with some ctd.

Oh, I forgot: I use win 98, too

How do you KNOW that.

i KNOW that because the video PLAYS and the system halts AFTER it - meaning at the time when the loading screen should appear.

the ubik dude has the same problem as i see!

the halting in CK is just black screen, even the HDD stops responding.
the EU2 error is just an instant bluescreen.

i'm assumng these new drivers are bugged for the 98 users? but no sense - as they are designed to work for these systems.

besides i have latest via 4in1 drivers and all.

Well the "Bink player" problem has nothing to do with the playing of the intro videos.
The problem manifests itself after the intro videos, the problem is that on some combinations of hardware/software it does not unload itself from memory properly, I am sure you can see how messed up memory could cause all sorts of problems and at any time during game play from right at the opening menu to well into the game.

VIA drivers are also known to be buggy.

In addition Win98 is no longer a supported product for Microsoft so nothing new is 100% safe to use with it.

ok you maybe right about the bink thing, but i have done the avi_back thing on EU2, so when i started it i got a blue screen instantly.

i get error in ddhelp, which is directx component right? i have 9.0b anyway

i dunno about the via drivers, probably ur right.

98 sux i know ;))))

well I would not put it past Microsoft to put code in the new Dx to make it not compatible with a product they no longer support, in order to force people to upgrade.

agreed!

i'm gonna crash with my Skoda from 1980 into their headquarters taking as much lives as i can. :D

anyway, maybe it's nvidia's fault in this case, because the older drivers work with directx9b.

Well the general rule with Video drivers is to not update them until or unless you run in to a problem.
