First of all I would like to say that the game is amazing and I love playing it.

However, coming from Surviving Mars, which is pretty much on point in terms of UI navigation on consoles, I have some minor gripes with Stellaris.

So I made a list of potential quality of life improvements.

  • Aggressive pop-ups
Problem: Story/Survey pop-ups appear full screen while doing something in menus, this gets very distracting and makes me forget what I was doing.

Solution: There are time-windows when nothing is selected and I’m not scrolling through menus so pop-ups could appear at such moments.

Also there is the notification bar below, which could have these pop-ups listed as bigger items, so I could differentiate them as more important than others and open them when I’m ready.

  • Full screen menus - navigation with left stick
Problem: Left stick doesn’t work for selecting option while in full-screen menus. Navigating with d-pad only in menus full of options is a chore to be honest.

Solution: Please allow left stick navigation when big menus are open and when camera position is not being controlled anyway - similar to Surviving Mars’ mechanics.

  • Full screen menus - transitioning between columns
Problem: I cannot move between columns when a highlighted option on the left column is on the bottom of the screen, and the option I’m trying to select on the right column is on the top of the screen. I have to move up the highlight on the left to move to the right, this is too much steps.

Solution: Together with allowing left stick navigation in full screen menus, allowing to move freely with a highlight selection from left to right (regardless of its vertical position) would make navigation way smoother.

  • Collapsing drop-down lists is confusing
Problem: Drop down lists won’t collapse on Back button press (B - X1, Circle - PS4), instead they will close the screen.

Solution: Please allow for Back button press to collapse a drop-down list instead of immediately closing the screen.

  • Stars' ambient SFX
Problem: Ambient SFX when zooming close to stars is too loud and overwhelming, overall I feel like this sound it’s not pleasant at all.

Solution: Please turn down the volume of this specific SFX by 50% at least.
