Ok, i got a Gateway AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz HD with 256 Mg RAM and DirectX 9.0B

When i got the game i was able to install it fine. I reformatted my hard drive for unrelated reasons, and tried reinstalling Victoria. The installer froze up. So i read the forums and it said to try copying the CD to your hard drive. Well, i tried that, but every time i highlight the install.exe file, my computer freezes up and has to be rebooted. The same exact thing also happens with Hearts of Iron, but not with any other CD I have.

Please help... i desperately need a Victoria fix!

Most likely a VIA 4in1 driver problem. Try to uninstall them, and if that does not work, do a clean OS install, but do not install you motherboard driver CD. Install the video drivers directly on top of a clean OS installation, then apply DirectX.

Well, i looked in my VIA folder, and it turns out theres nothing at all in there. Could that be causing the problem, and if it is, how do i go about rectifying that?

edit: Seeing as how its 2 AM here, im goin to bed. Ill look back here tomorrow morning.

Sounds like a conflict with your CDrom drive.
Do you have another drive you could try it in?

None that are working...

I suppose if i have to, i can reinstall my OS like jpd said. I'm loathe to do it though because it will take me several hours, and I'm not even sure it would work...

I have this evil thing called "work", so if there's no other suggestions when i get back, i suppose ill spend most of my free time tomorrow reinstalling all my programs. And if that doesnt work, i can always throw my computer out the window :)

Can you copy the contents of the CD to the HD using the dos window?

That depends. What are the commands I would use to do such a thing? Its been years since i dealt with DOS (i.e. not since i was like 7) so the only thing i remember how to do is change drives. Any help here would be much appreciated.

Edit: NVM! I got it, and tried installing from DOS, and it worked perfectly. Still freezes up whenever i try to access it in windows... or even highlight it. Totally odd. Thanks for all your help JPD and Castellon. The only bad thing is, i won't get any sleep for work tomorrow :D
