I figured this could go here.

Anyway, me and some guys are going to do a rather big EU2 MP-game in a week or so, and I'm having trouble connecting. We're using Hamachi, and I created a channel and some people joined to try it. Now, the problem is I can't join a game. I can't see any games on LAN when I know someone on Hamachi is hosting, and someone else has joined them. And at least one of them, but not all, can see my game on LAN, but it only freezes up for a couple of seconds then does nothing.

On Vnet, they can all join eachothers games, but I can't. I can see the game and all details, but when I try to join it loads for a while then tells me there's no game to be found on that specific IP.

I don't use Windows Firewall and I allowed EU2 when Norton prompted it. I do have an ADSL router, which may or may not have open ports or a firewall, but I was under the impression that Hamachi "solves" that problem? Anyone?

maybe something is blocking hamachi, you should try opening your ports it much better than that hamachi crap:p

Have you tried direct IP connecting with hamachi up? The LAN option of EU2 doesn't always work properly.

We didn't try that, now that you mention it. I guess we figured that if it didn't work on LAN or Vnet, it wouldn't work. I'll try that, and I'll see if I can get access to the router, which my dad might not like.

Thanks.

Ok, I'm starting to get desperate here. I got access to the router, and the firewall isn't turned on. I also forwarded ports 2300-2400, 47624 and 6073. Then I made sure my Norton firewall was turned off, and any programs like PeerGuardian weren't running. And yet, people can see my games but not join, and I can see games on Vnet, but it tells me there's no game on that IP when I join.

I've gotten it to work before, but now I just have no idea what I could possibly do to fix it. I don't even know what could be broken!

Edit: For the record I've got a Linksys router, and I've tried to open just about everything I've read in a few threads, including using DMZ. The last stuff I've done there's only one guy who I've tried it with, so I guess it's theoretically possible I just can't join if he's hosting, but he get's it to work with everyone else.

I've given up, won't be any EU2 MP for me.

Tried forwarding the proper ports, tried port triggering, tried DMZ, tried disabling all firewalls, tried using Hamachi. Even tried reinstalling windows in case that could be the problem. Only thing I can think of is that my router doesn't like my computer, and I can't do anything with that.

Oh well.

There are no such things as routers not liking computers. I am afraid i cant help you but you must have done something wrong for it not to work - or you have some other aplication blocking it.

For the record, try linking your computer directly to the modem and try to see if it works. If it doesnt then it is not the router at all.

And what is the problem with Hamachi? What is the error message? What happens?

Well, I've tried everything I can think of. Opening a lot of ports, DMZ, etc. Also turned off the Norton Firewall and the Windows Firewall, as well as any other programs. Now I haven't even got a Norton Firewall, and turned off the Windows Firewall. I can't try connecting right to the internet since I'm at home for the Christmas, and other people are using the line.

Don't know why Hamachi doesn't work either. The other people who are now playing the game are using it, connecting directly by the Hamachi IP of the host. When I try, the game just freezes, and a few times I've had to restart the computer. One thing I did notice is that after my last attempt (and subsequent rebooting) Hamachi told me that I had a bad connection to the person (and only him) who was hosting, but I'm sure that hasn't been the case always.

I just can't think of anything else I could possibly do.

Neither can I, so what's left is elimating possible sources of your problem.

I agree with EGO that one of the last steps left to you is now figuring out if it's your router or not, by connecting directly to the internet.

Alternatively, you could bring a laptop (borrow it from a friend for example) and try to run EU from it. Then you can eliminate if it's your PC configuration or not.

Well, I didn't get it to work. But now I'm back home, where I'm on a University line, and I can both host and join with Hamachi. So I'm content.

I'd like to play some MP here, but are there any games that'd let a relative novice (not complete newbie, but hardly pro) play? I get the impression most people have left for EU3, so there's not much games running..

I've got ICQ (377316360), solely for that purpose.
