I just purchased Rome from GamersGate, downloaded and installed.

First time I chose to cancel DirectX installation because I recently checked my DirectX configuration and it was up to date.

I installed patch vv_232.exe which I downloaded through the game launcher.

When I launch the game I get the message I added below.

So I uninstalled the game from the configuration panel, and installed again.

This time I did install DirectX, and I didn't install the patch (yet).

Still the same error.

Europa Universalis III Chronicles 5.1 runs fine on my system, as does for instance Crusader Kings I + Deus Vult.

Error Message:

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

See the sticky thread above with this error message in its title.

Thank you. That fixed it.

(But the error message is not about JIT, it is about an incorrect application configuration file.
The message about JIT debugging is aimed at developers, but I wasn't planning on installing Visual Studio on my XP machine to investigate this problem, although I did try to add some default application configuration files.
