Last week I found I could no longer load from "autosave" without having the game freeze my computer. Today, my only other save is causing the same problems.

I have not modded the game, nor altered it in any way. I simply save the game, overwriting the previous save, then exit via the "surrender" option.

I have not patched it as I don't want to lose the game, so I'm still playing on version 1.0.0.1

Is there a solution to this problem? Should I make a copy of the saved game, reinstall Crusader Kings, then try to load? Should I stop overwriting when I save?

I'd appreciate any input.

I've just noticed that main game screen has my game version listed as being 1.04a whereas the Crusaders.exe file version is 1.0.0.1 (viewed when right-clicked on).

Could this discrepancy be the cause of the problem (not being able to load games, that is)?

My Win XP system gives no errors; Crusader Kings simply freezes at the "initializing scripts" phase of the load bar [that comes up once you've loaded a game]. CTRL+ALT+DEL lists Crusader Kings' .exe as not responding.

I've looked through the forums, and now think the best thing to do is what you said: get the latest patch and start a new thread.

Thanks for the welcome and for the reply.
