Summary​

Unable to play as Main menu unresponsive to button pressed - 100% recreate method, see my last post

Description​

Game does not recognise button press so is stuck on screen "press any button to continue". and am unable to bring up the main menu

Steps to reproduce​

Please see my last post for a full method method and process and files to re-create it now I've figured it out

How to recreate -
Disable steam cloud sync
Delete contents of "C:/Users/%USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/HarebrainedSchemes"
Replace with one from attached zip file
Launch game either wait or press space to skip paradodox screen-> hairbrained schemes screen-> and unity screen.
Once the loading symbol has gone the game just sits there not recognising any button press so can not open main menu

Version : 1.1.5-65382

This has been happening since the game crashed. It was good before the crash


1) Keyboard presses are recognised. I can alt+tab to change to windowed mode and back. I can also shift tab to other open applications. I can type in other applications
2) This happened both when launching game straight from steam and via launcher
3) I have verified game files via steam, they are all good
4) I have uninstalled and re installed. the problem persists
5) it happens with no other games, they all register button presses
6) I installed steam and them lamplighters on a PC that had run neither before and have the same issue.
7) I am not running and have never installed any mods.
8) I have tried various combinations of num lock, caps lock and scroll lock and makes no difference.
9) I have pressed every key on the keyboard
10) it does not respond to mouse either
11) They game was working previously, I have played 50 hours before this happened.
12) this happened very recently 3/1/23. I left it over the weekend to see if it would correct over time, it has not
13) I have tried changing between windowed mode and full but mqakes no difference
14) I hacve tried alt&tab to other applications and back, no difference.
15) I have tried with just steam and lamplighters running and with other applications, no difference
16) It is playing music and changing background images so hasn't crashed
17) I have waited 5 min and still unresponcive
18) Have tried running game in offline mode, still the same issue

This happens to me intermittently. In my experience, this shows up when the Paradox login doesn't happen. Not sure if it is a matter of skipping screens to quickly, but when it happens I don't see my Paradox account in the top right corner.

You gave me a new idea to try.
I hadn't created a paradox account untill I reported this issue.

So I tried linking my paradox account to my steam account and with the new patch. Sadly still no luck.
I tried letting the game run for 3 hours and trying at random times to work but it didn't still just playing the main screen but unresponsive to button presses

No it isn't working post patch, however I have found a way to Identify where the problem is and have recreated it 3 times out of 3. So the team should be able to debug it.
My guess is its save games related

The process I followed is
1) Disable steam cloud sync (Steam->settings->Enable steam Cloud to off)
2) Go to C:/Users/%USERPROFILE%/AppData/LocalLow/HarebrainedSchemes
3) cut this folder and pasted to desktop
4) Launch game
Now when I press any button the game responds.
I did First run settings. then
A) started a new campain
B) saved in the tutorial
C) quit

D) Launch game
E) did step A again
Worked fine every time.

So then I deleted the HarebrainedSchemes folder and copied my original one back in.
Game fails to respond to button press.

I then repeated the process of delete folder, lauch game, works, do first run settings. Delete folder and copy my original folder, lauch game, no responce
So it seems something in the folder is unable to be processed and causing the problem. My guess is the crash whcih occured before the fault started happening corrupted something.

Attached is the zip file withh my original HarebrainedSchemes folder. It has about 50 hours play in campain 3.
Campain 3 was what I was playing when the crash occured.


Your teams should be able to recreate the fault using this.

Thank you so much for staying patient and I am terribly sorry about all the inconviences this issue has caused you. I come bearing a message from our devs regarding your issue:

Thank you for providing all the info and files, it's been very helpful. We have found that one of the campaigns in this save file is corrupt, and that is preventing the game from launching correctly. Unfortunately, the corrupt file is your main campaign. We have a few steps to help you try to work around this issue!
  1. Restore your copy of the HarebrainedSchemes folder to your AppData/LocalLow Location (keep a copy somewhere else just in case!)
  2. Open the HarebrainedSchemes folder and go to HarebrainedSchemes\LamplightersLeague\Save\Sync
  3. Cut the file user.hbssettings file and paste it somewhere else as a backup.
  4. Launch the game
This should get you through the Press Any Key phase of the main menu, but it won't help the corrupted campaign file. To address that, we strongly recommend launching the game with cloud-sync enabled, to see if an uncorrupted version of your campaign is available there!

From now on I'll make a copy of the lamplighters folder after every play session so if corruption occurs I'll only lose the last session of play

Update
1) This bug always happens in the same place, after pressing the start mission button. Either on the agents screen or on the deploy screen before the delploy mission comes up. Never had it when loading into a mission already started
2) The more weeks you get into this game the higher frequency of it occuring. Currently on week 43 and had it 5 times
 
Facing the same issue. Was able to play 4 hours, now space bar works until I get to main menu. There, I can use the mouse to click on any button (continue, new game, exit game), the button can be clicked but nothing happens.
No game controller connected.

Already tried re-installing the game or deleting the folder in AppData.

Happy to do troubleshooting, any additional pointers?

Also, how can I open a support ticket?
The game is not listed as category on the Paradox support site when trying to open a ticket.
